Advantages: Refreshing, healthy numbers, perfect in this hot weather, outstanding value for money
Disadvantages: Those who don't like lime wont like it
Did you miss me these last few days? Has the lack of verse made you feel worse or do you prefer to offer me a curse? Verily, time is fleeting but rest assured I have not been idle. Nay, instead I've been beavering away reading some wonderful and not so wonderful reviews. On the whole they are wonderful though and it's been a true pleasure.
Raconteur, will you kindly shut up and get on with what you're supposed to be reviewing good Sir!
Ahem, I do apologise. Right, back to the matter in hand this wonderful little concoction from Tesco's for the merest trickle of coins. Well 73p to be exact.
For those who have read my reviews they will note that I had a most dreadful revelation with Lucozade Energy. The thought of 262 calories ransacking my body whilst leaping around in karate is not what I had in mind. Apart from filling my overworked stomach with an abundance of gurgling fizz it also rather made the whole point of sweating my logs of rather err pointless.
Ergo, it was time to think of something else. My Pater Familas recommended to me a twist of lime with water. As we know lime is a most refreshing fruit and this seemed a most prudent course of action. It also provided me with a use for those poor unfortunate empty lucozade bottles. They could be transformed into fitting receptacles for my new wonder potion.
So, after a trip to the wilds of Tesco's near Bearstead I found myself in possession of this almost clear liquid. The first thing I did was to trail down to that all important information regarding calories and so forth. Now, you know that usually I am rather carefree with such data but I made an exception in this case. And pray tell, what did those numbers add up to then?
The results of the waistband judges are as follows :
Calories - 3 - <1%
Sugar - 0.1g - <1%
Fat trace - <1%
Saturates - <1%
Salt - 0.5g - 8%
Now I am no nutritonalist but to me those figures do look rather attractive. Compare that 3 calories to the 262 in Mr Lucozade and that is one serious difference. To be honest, it looks almost as healthy as a good old drop of Adam's Ale.
Therefore, I can conclude that this is most certainly a healthy option. Very good Raconteur I hear you say but what of its taste? Does the lime taste like a toilet duck (not that I've ever been insane enough to try!) or does it have you closing your eyes and dreaming of Mexico city with Tijuana brass rolling lazily across those Latin streets?
Well, I never dreamt of any Aztecs wearing sombreros (sorry for the mix up of centuries but I'm not letting that image escape) or pouring copious amounts of water down my throat to flush away a ruptured voice box. What I did experience was a very refreshing taste of lime. It hits the spot just as I wanted and this is now a staple part of my new drinking regimen.
Now a word of warning to the unwary. This is double concentrated which is rather wonderful as the bottle will go that much further. However, if you're not careful you will pour a most generous measure into the bottom of the glass before topping up with water. You'll tilt your head back and quaff this firejuice and will instantly regret your decision as your eyes will probably pop out of their head as a result of this citrus explosion ruminating in the base of your throat.
Be of no illusion this stuff is strong. What I do is to place the merest few drops into my glass/empty bottle before mixing. The result is a wonderful water drink with a hint of lime. To me that is how lime should be enjoyed and is my recommendation to all who are bold enough to dip their tastebuds.
So, it passed the taste test and the health trial. The final examination had to be when I was after a state of exertion down my local dojo. With my eyes stinging with sweat, a clammy hand reached into my bag and took hold of said beverage. The lid came off and I quaffed my drink in two or three gulps. There was no fizzy stomach, there was no influx of calories, what I gained instead was a quenching of thirst and a treat to my tastebuds.
Does this get my recommendation then? If you glance to the rating you will see a bar of stars. For the price it is superb value for money. It tastes good, it does the job and healthy to boot. I'd certainly say to fellow Tesco shoppers to give it a whirl and for 73p you can't go wrong. I mean, even if you don't like it I'm sure that rather large empty bottle might come in handy!
Ok, now I'm all reviewed out it's time for a bit of bardish nonsense. All those who can't stand poetry please rate and leave now...
I did drink a cordial from Mexico
Truly my throat said 'there you go'
For this delight will be the first
To go and battle that dry old thirst
With a citrusy zing it'll taste just right,
It'll have you glowing and feeling bright,
And for pennies that amount to seventy three
You'd think Tesco's were off their tree.
So in these summery climes,
Do enjoy this water and lime,
Take it onboard and close your eyes,
And enjoy this Mexican deep surprise
And on that note this Raconteur bows and bids you a most gracious adieu for taking the time to read. Until next I scribe
Adieu :D
Summary: A most refreshing treat :D
