Advantages: Tastes nice, full of Vitamin C, good price
Disadvantages: Full of added sugar and made from concentrate
I usually drink some fresh orange or cranberry juice in the morning with my breakfast but decided I would like to try something different for a change so when I saw the Pomegranate Juice Drink on sale in Tesco I thought I would give it a try. The juice costs 86p.
The juice comes in a 1 litre cardboard carton. On the front is a picture of some juicy pomegranates and a glass of the juice. It also states that the juice is enriched with vitamin C which makes it sound quite healthy. The carton has a plastic tab on the top which you have to lift up to burst the seal and then can reseal the juice to keep it fresh. I didn't have much luck with the mechanism and couldn't manage to get mine to click back to reseal it, by pushing it to try I managed to move the plastic bit so the juice leaks out the side when I pour! Sorry Tesco but you loose a mark for that! The juice should be chilled before serving and once open should be consumed within 5 days. The carton can be recycled.
The juice itself is a dark red colour exactly as you would expect the juice from a pomegranate to be. It is hard to describe the smell slightly sweet and fruity. It tastes sweet, not too sweet, its not sickly but quite pleasant. It tastes of pomegranate and is a nice refreshing juice. The consistency is quite a thin watery juice much like a cranberry juice would be, there is no sediment in the juice.
The main ingredient of the juice is water then Pomegranate Juice from concentrate makes up 35% of the total. There is also glucose-fructose syrup and sugar and added Vitamin C amongst other things.
The information on the side of the carton states the juice is free from nuts and is suitable for vegetarians (as you would expect!).

I enjoyed this carton of juice it was a nice change from cranberry and I liked the fact that it had lots of vitamin C in it. However I didn't like the fact that it had added glucose-fructose syrup, sugar and flavouring. I prefer my juices to be more natural so I feel that the added goodness of the Vitamin C is taken away by the addition of all this sugar and the flavouring too. It does contain only a little more sugar than my usual Tropicana Orange Juice however that juice is pure orange juice and the sugars are what are naturally occurring in the fruit itself so I feel that isn't quite as bad.
However that being said I would buy this juice again for a little change now and again but not every week. I have this week come across a pure pomegranate juice drink (although at a significantly higher price) so I am off to see what that is like.
Summary: A nice tasting Pomegranate juice but has lots of added sugar
