Advantages: Lots of vitamin C

Disadvantages: High in sugar

Did you ever have a Pomegranate as a treat and sit with a needle and pick the juicy bits out to eat? I found it delicious but oh so time consuming, but after making Pomegranate ice cream with a recipe from my daughter which was really gorgeous I decided to try the juice drink when I saw it in Tesco.

The box has a lovely picture of the inside of the pomegranate with all the juicy seeds and a glass of the product, and is a bright green colour at the top of the box. The plastic top is easy to open and keeps the carton sealed. My box contains a litre and cost 86p and is suitable for Vegetarians.

On the side of the box the important information is all detailed. It is best served chilled and should be shaken before serving, although I haven't been aware of any sediment as you get with orange juice. Once opened it should be consumed within 5 days and before the date on the box. My carton is best before August 2009. I really should learn to read the list of ingredients more thoroughly before buying! I've been reviewing long enough to know better, but I saw the box, took in that it was Pomegranate juice and bought it. The main ingredient is WATER! Then pomegranate juice from concentrate which equals 35%, there is also Glucose-fructose syrup. 5% of Aronia juice from concentrate and sugar vitamin C and flavouring and Citric acid. If like me you have never heard of Aronia juice then now is your chance to learn more! I have copied this from a site all about Aronia berries "Aronia melanocarpa, or Chokeberry is a hardy plant native to North America that has attracted scientific interest due to its deep purple, almost black pigmentation. Aronias' rich antioxidant content may be beneficial as a dietary preventative of oxidative stress, to support cardiovascular health, to help with healthy inflammation levels, gastric functions, healthy eye inflammation levels, and liver function."

The content is low enough not to over power the flavour of the Pomegranate but obviously gives added benefits. The drink is quite thin, compared to some orange juice but has a lovely flavour, is a really pretty deep red and although slightly sweet it still has a tang and is quite thirst quenching. Sadly there is a lot of sugar and in a 100 mls there is 10.7grams which is 30% of the daily guideline. But this is still less than the equivalent amount of Pepsi. The calories amount to 6% of the daily amount. One good thing though is that in 100mls you are getting 50% of the daily amount of Vitamin C.

I really enjoyed drinking my Pomegranate juice drink and if I could ignore the sugar then I would drink it every day, but I am thinking of my waistline and once the carton is finished I drink something else for a change for a week or two before sampling it again. It is good to enjoy a range of fruit drinks and pomegranate seems to be very popular at the moment. Cheers Tesco, a good source of Vitamin C.

Summary: Pomegrante juice drink

I haven't had pomegranate juice on it's own before, I have had it with raspberry in a fruit tea and soft drink. I would like to try it though. Well written review.
