Because I go through so much cups of tea each day, there's no surprise that I go through endless cartons of milk too! I dont think Im fussy with the brand of milk I get,as long as it does the job and is not too pricey! Though one thing I do care about is how healthy milk is. So I find I always go for skimmed milk over semi- or full fat. More in particular I go for Tesco Skimmed Milk!
Tesco skimmed milk comes in a plastic carton with a red label around it and red top, unique to the skimmed milk options. Holding onto the handle when the milk is full it is very cold and quite heavy (2 litre), but is is no more or less heavy than other brands. To store it, it is kept in the fridge like any other. I think that this is fine, but thats where the UHT milk comes in more handy as it can be stored ina cupboard before opened.
When you pour the milk, it does look a slight bit watery, but it can be expected of skimmed. Though it does have a fresh white colour to it too. It doesn't have too strong a smell, which I suppose is a benefit as I dont like the smell of milk! And as for taste? It is amazing! It is quite sweet yet sour at the same time as it is a lot thinner so the taste is more dilute.
Milk is good for a lot of things, especially this. I would say it tasted best on its own with tea or in cereals. Its not as nice as semi skimmed milk to drink on its own, and would be too thin to use for baking too. Though other than that it's quite good!
The milk is reasonably healthy too! It does contain calcium, and only has just short of 40 calories and less than gram fat per 100ml, which is great! It has a good shelf life too, over a week from purchase generally! now I go through one in under three days often, so it is quite good!
A 2L carton will cost you around 85p from a Tesco store, which really is not much at all! If you accompany this with Tesco Value Teabags, then you have yourself a (tea) party! It is definitely a great dairy product and well worth a try!

- 13/03/09 Good review here. Funnily enough I was in my local Somerfields the other day and saw a carton of milk called "Mooo." I very nearly bought it. Ive also bought Tesco skimmed milk before and largely impressed with the price compared to what Somerfields pass up. |
