Tesco Skimmed Milk
Advantages: lower in fat and calories
I used to think of skimmed milk as greyish water and really not good to drink at all, I was always a semi-skimmed milk drinker as that is what I had when I lived at home, but after my parents switched to skimmed milk and I didn't notice the difference, I decided to give it a go myself.
This bottle of skimmed milk is is 2 pints (1.14L), comes in a bottle with a red lid and a red label and currently costs 89p. Skimmed milk is also available in 1 pint and 4 pint bottles and you can get semi-skimmed (green lid and label) and whole milk (blue lid and label) in the same 3 bottle sizes. You can also get organic milk which costs slightly more than just the bog standard milk.
The milk is 0.1% fat and contains and contains 34 calories per 100ml, this is compared to semi-skimmed milk which is 2% fat and 48 calories per 100ml and whole milk which is 4% fat and 64 calories per 100ml.
I have this milk with my cereal every morning and I use it for cups of tea and baking and I can honestly say it is just as good as semi-skimmed milk. When I first started it I have to admit I did notice a difference compared to semi-skimmed milk but that is to be expected, it wasn't different because it was horrible, it just tasted less creamy and rich than semi-skimmed milk. I like the fact that I am still having the same amount of milk I've always had, but am consuming a smaller amount of calories and a lower amount of fat, without noticing any taste difference.
If your looking to reduce your calorie or fat intake and you don't drink skimmed milk it would be worth giving it a go, it might taste strange to start with, especially if you currently drink whole milk, but you will get used to it and if you don't like it you can always switch back :)
Summary: just as good as semi-skimmed milk, but better for you
