Advantages: Nice taste, good price, easy to make
Disadvantages: Not as nice as camomile tea
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Due to the fact that my blood sugar was out of control and I was also overweight I decided to try the Slimming World eating plan, which basically cuts out fat and sugar as much as possible. I have always enjoyed camomile tea, which of course is drunk without milk making it a virtually calorie free option. When I was in Tesco's I decided to take a look at their range and see if there was anything else I fancied.
PRODUCT
The name of the product that I chose is Tesco Soothing Herb & Fruit Infusion. The tea comes in round teabags which are available in boxes of 20 priced at round about £1.30 per box. The tea is advertised as 'a natural way to help relax the senses' and contains camomile, lemon balm leaves and aloe vera.
PACKAGING
The teabags come in a bright yellow box with a picture of a tea cup on the front. The box is wrapped in cellophane and the tea bags are sealed in a foil bag inside the box. The side of the box features information about the preparation of the tea, the ingredients, allergy advice together with storage instructions. The box is of course recycleable being made from cardboard.
TO MAKE
You just pop a teabag in a mug or a cup fill it with hot water, allow it to stand for a minute or two, until it is the strength you like, then remove the teabag and drink. It's a good idea to let it cool a bit first though!! Seriously, if I am thirsty, I just add a bit of cold water after I remove the teabag and then it's ready to drink straight away. You can sweeten the tea with honey or sugar if you like your drinks to taste sweeter but I find it's fine as it is. By the way you do NOT add milk to this tea, so it is also great for people who have to follow a milk free diet.
COLOUR
The tea is the same colour as camomile tea and I am trying to think how I can describe this colour without being indelicate? All those of you who have tried camomile tea know exactly where I'm going with this one don't you? LOL! I'm sorry to say it does actually look like a very strong urine sample! That's the best way I can describe it to give you a mental image of how it looks. Luckily both the taste and the smell of the tea are quite different.
SMELL
Now this one is also hard to describe but in a much nicer way I can assure you. I can definitely smell the camomile and the tang of the lemon balm. The smell is fragrant with a sort of spicy edge to it.
TASTE
Oh blimey this is getting more difficult - how can I describe a taste? It's not too strong, although as I said earlier you can let the teabag infuse for as long as you wish thus altering the strength of the drink. It has a fragrant almost spicy taste with tones of apple but I can't really taste the camomile at all. It is a fruit tea that needs to be drunk hot or at least warm - if I let it cool too much I find that the taste is too strong.
EFFECT
Well I have to say that I didn't notice any calming effect although I did enjoy the tea.
I do only drink this one occasionally as I do prefer the regular camomile as it is more refreshing to me.
Of course another great thing for me at least is that it has no calories - can't be bad eh?
Summary: Pleasant enough tea

- 20/04/09 Good to know, Im starting to get into Tea again and this doesn't sound that bad. Im not a fan of Camomile on the basis that it was the first herbal tea I discovered at the age of 17 and drank it for years! |

- 15/04/09 My name for chamomile tea is a cup of weed. Because the flowers look like weeds. Hubby loves it but I can't stand the smell. |

- 09/04/09 I recall a friend trying to serve me chamomile tea after a particularly nasty incident to calm me down.... not my cup of tea at all! |
