Advantages: nice taste, cheaper than others, low fat
Disadvantages: high sugar, not cheap
I've never been a huge fan of smoothie and definitely wouldn't have chosen it myself however the past two months or so, I've loved to have a nice drink of fresh fruit smoothie during the day. I do like the branded versions however Tesco smoothies are incredibly good too. One of the ones that I have taken joy in trying is the Tesco strawberry and banana smoothie!
The smoothie comes in two different sizes. The smaller bottle is 250ml which is a typical serving size anyway and this size would be bought if you were on the go and wanted a nice fruity top up. The larger bottle contains a litre and would therefore be more for storing at home and will give you around four servings from it, obviously depending on what size your portion is. The smaller bottle costs 97p and the larger £1.97. This is quite expensive however if you look at the branded version, the Innocent smoothie in the same flavour, a little 250ml bottle will cost £1.75 and the larger almost £3. Therefore looking at it like this, the price of the Tesco one is pretty damn good.
The bottle, for me is quite attractive. It is a see through plastic bottle which means you can see the delicious looking smoothie from the first glance you make. This for me is more appealing and makes my decision easier than any fancy designs on labels. It looks nice and pink through the plastic and it is a pretty, pleasant colour. The lid is made of plastic. The label around the bottle is made from a thin plastic material. On it, is nutrition and ingredients information ,details on the product and information on how to contact Tesco if you have any problem. There are no pictures on the label but this is ok because you don't need it when you can clearly see the product itself.
Before you open the smoothie, you are advised to give it a good shake and so I did, making sure the lid was tightly on! The plastic cap is pretty easy to unscrew but be careful not to tip the bottle over when doing so as it may require a bit of a yank! The smell when the lid comes off is absolutely glorious. I wasn't expecting too strong an aroma considering it is a Tesco's own product however the fruity scent that came from the bottle was absolutely gorgeous. The smell was mostly like berries however I did detect a slight banana smell to it too. Gorgeous.
Now for the most important part, the drinking. I took a swig and was immediately hit by the texture. It seemed a lot thinner than I had been expecting. It wasn't watery however it definitely wasn't as thick as branded versions. Towards the bottom of the smoothie it was a bit thicker which I didn't really understand as I had given it a mighty great shake. The taste was mostly like berries. It did have a nice strawberry tang too it however I think there was a raspberry tint to it too. The banana could be tasted towards the end and it was wonderful. The smoothie was really sweet though and actually became a little bit sickly towards the end of the bottle.
Although this is a "healthy" snack, the nutrition isn't actually overly great. The 250ml will give you 115 calories and 0.5g of fat. The fat content is super but the calories seems a bit high considering you could have probably two whole crates of strawberries for the same amount of calories. The smoothie also has a whopping amount of sugar in at a horrendous 25g! The smoothie is suitable for vegetarians.
