Advantages: A tasty unusual fizzy pop, no sugar
Disadvantages: Can be a little bloating
In Tesco last week I fancied a bottle of pop but found the other flavours somewhat uninspired, even my usual favourites of Dandelion & Burdock or Tango just didn't interest me. I was about to walk away when I spotted a lurid green bottle of Tesco own brand Limeade, even better it was sugar free so I could fit it into my diet without worrying about the calories.
I've drunk limeade in the past but honestly it was so long ago that I cannot really remember what it tastes like, although I love the flavour of lime so picked up a bottle and put it in my trolley.
I was parched when I got home so decided to have a glass straight away. The bottle opened with a refreshing fizz and I was pleasantly surprised to see plenty of bubbles fizzing throughout the green liquid in the bottle.
Taking a sip I was impressed with the pungent lime flavour, admittedly it does taste a bit of chemicals but overall it's a very pleasant tasting drink indeed. It has a lovely sweet flavour that surprised me considering it's a sugar free drink, presumably that's the sweetners Tesco have used but I must say they have been blended very nicely in this drink and there is no bitterness whatsoever.
Once the bottle has been opened a couple of times the pop will start going a little flat but this isn't really a problem specific to this drink as it happens with most fizzy drinks, especially the supermarket own brand varieties.
I do find Tesco's Limeade doesn't really quench by thirst very well, which surprised me actually as fizzy citrus flavour drinks usually hit the spot well when it comes to their refreshing properties. However, it's a very tasty drink that is a real change from the fizzy flavours I usually buy and for that reason I shall certainly buy it again when the fancy takes me.
A 250ml glass of Tesco Sugar Free Limeade contains just 3 calories and absolutely no fat or sugar at all so a couple of glasses will be fine whether you're dieting or not. I did find it a little bloating however so I don't recommend you drink too much of it too quickly!
Summary: A very nice drink of pop that is not only cheap as chips but won't hurt your diet.

- 01/09/09 I was captivated and amused by your description, then again, the word "Ectoplasm" just gets me in stitches for some compeltely random reason! I shop at Tesco monthly, Limeade is one of my favorite drinks from my childhood and I had never even considered purchasing a bottle or two. Thanks to your review, I will definitely add this to my list for this months shopping! Thank you for reminding me of this addictive shiny "ectoplasm" drink. (Yes, I am still chuckling at that) |
