Advantages: A nice taste, refreshing when drunk very cold, reasonably priced
Disadvantages: A slightly bitter aftertaste, not a lot of fruit involved in this drink
I am making a conscious effort to cut down on sugary fizzy drinks with a view to drinking more fruit juices and refreshing cold drinks. A nice one I've recently discovered is the Tesco Tropical Juice Drink which my granddaughters' love and I enjoy more often since ditching the Diet Cola.
This is a 'juice drink' and contains just 32% fruit juices from concentrate, so by no means can you class this as one of your five-a-day fruit portions but it's a refreshing and tasty drink for the times when you don't want a warm drink.
The juice has a lovely tropical flavour and I can distinctly taste pineapple, orange and passion fruit although looking at the bottle I discover mango, papaya, kiwi, apricot and banana are also used in its creation. Thinking about it I can now tell there is banana in it but it's very subtle and I hadn't really noticed until I read it on the label.
This is a smooth drink which is very refreshing when drunk ice cold from the fridge. Personally I think it has a slightly bitter aftertaste and sometimes gives me indigestion but no-one else has noticed this so perhaps it's one of the ingredients which doesn't agree with me. It also has a rather processed flavour, although this isn't as bad as it sounds and it certainly does not taste as processed as Sunny Delight
I don't find this drink overly sweet, rather the natural sugars of the fruit juices are evident in the taste and it's not overloaded with sugar. It's a nice smooth drink with no bits floating about in it. Don't get me wrong, I love the more expensive juices that have juicy bits but there is nothing worse than a cheap juice adding them because it tastes false and they tend to add poor quality fruit bits.
It can sometimes leave me with a thin film on my teeth and my nine year old granddaughter has noticed this too, she always brushes her teeth after drinking this because she cannot stand the feel of it.
My 2 litre bottle cost £1.05 which is good value for such a nice drink, although I think most of the time I will be spending the money on a pure fruit juice as I'm not really convinced about how much good this drink is doing me.
Summary: A nice enough drink, but it's hardly juice!
