Advantages: good juice, nice taste, cheap

Disadvantages: a bit much sugar

Planning a summer holiday is always the time when try to get rid of the crisps and chocolate in my cupboard and stock up on some healthier things. Orange juice is a great and quick way to cover my DGA of vitamins without running to the shop everyday and buy fruit.
Since I switched from coffee to orange juice before going to work I feel a lot better - might be pure imagination but who cares as long as it works?!

I do like most of the Value products but been recently disappointed by a few - so my expectations for the orange juice were not too high. A pleasant surprise to find out that the Tesco juice is actually better than most upmarket products.

Packing

Another blue and white Tesco Value pack, this time with the image of an glass of orange juice on the front. On both front and side are the Nutrition information and your Daily Guidance Amount.

The packing has one big let-down, it's one of these cardboard things you have to cut the edge of to pour the juice. Maybe it's just me but I'm creating the biggest chaos in my kitchen when doing so.

Ingredients & Nutrition

The orange juice is not fresh juice but made from concentrate. It is suitable for vegetarians and contains no nuts.

The nutrition info and your GDA per 250ml serving is:

Energy - 120kcal - 6%
Protein - 1.3g
Sugar - 26.0g - 29%
Fat - trace - >1%

That is quite a lot of sugar. One way to avoid this is to mix your orange juice with water. That's actually the only thing I'd like to change about the whole product - 30% of your GDA in ! glass of orange juice is definitely too much.

Look & Taste

I love the smell when you first open the pack, nice and refreshing, not sweet but with a hint of lemon.
Same goes basically for the juice as well. I expected it to be fairly sweet but not at all, it's lovely refreshing and even ok when not served chilled.
It is a tiny bit more watery than other juices but that's ok as I have half water/half juice anyway.

You can keep the juice for quite long in the fridge, 3 days if you go by the pack but it's easily up to one week. If you do have some left over freeze it in ice cups and use it to chill your juice another time - like this you keep your drink cold without watering it down.

This is definitely a Value product that plays in the same league as the expensive drinks.

Price & Value

1 litre of orange juice for 56 pence is an astonishing and unbeatable price. I drink quite a lot of fruit juices, an easy and tasty way to 1 of your 5 a day.

I know that some people prefer to buy 2 litter packs but 1 litre is absolutely sufficient when you are alone. It's stays ok for one week and if you take 5 servings per pack that's better than throwing half of it away because you didn't drink it in time.

I can highly recommend the juice, for me it's a 09 out of 10!
