Advantages: Cheap and tasty

Disadvantages: It can attack teeth if you drink too much

This orange juice really reminds me of the little glass you used to get in your place setting in a bed and breakfast some years ago at breakfast - or the little glass you would get as a starter at lunch in pseudo-posh restaurants many years ago when I was little and my grandpa took us all out for lunch for a treat.

This is becuase it is made from concentrate and not freshly squeezed. The orange juice I used to taste many years ago probably came in a super concentrated form and the restaurant owners added water to it before serving.

Package
----------

The juice comes in a sturdy tetra pak carton which keeps the juice well for 5 days in the fridge once opened. As it is a tetra pak it can be recycled at supermarkets.

Price
------

The value long-life juice come in at a reasonable 58p for 1 litre. In comparison, the Teco 1 litre freshly squeezed juice 'with bits' is £1.48 - which is nearly three times the price - but is it worth it?

Taste and Texture
-----------------------

The taste of the juice is not too acidic and generally a good, rounded orangy taste. It is smooth with no bits so it is very drinkable and I find it quite moorish. I really don't mind the taste of orange juice from concentrate but I do think it is very different from the freshly-squeezed stuff. My daughter nags me to buy the freshly squeezed stuff and I do give in when she shops with me - but I do sometimes get this when I go on my own because I like the taste of it!

Nutritional Information
----------------------------

Perhaps the only thing to note is that the juice contains 22.8g of sugar per 100g and 83% of a persons RDA of vitamin C.

It is important to understand that these natural juice drinks do have a lot of sugar and are very acidic and can attack teeth - especially if it is given to children instead of 'pop'. Watering down is a good way to compensate for this - and as the juice is very flavoursome I don't think this is a problem. Given like this, I think it is a great drink for children.

It seems like 100g of juice gives you a great percentage of the RDA of Vitamin C but I don't think it should be relied on as a sole supply. The RDA is actually only enough to stop a human being getting scurvy.

In comparison, the freshly squeezed juice 'with bits' has a 125 % of the RDA of vitaminC - which is a bit more like it.

To conclude
--------------

It passes the taste test with me - BUT - knowing that drinking too much juice really attacks your teeth (ask your dentist) - maybe it is better to drink less of a better quality juice to get your vitamin C than more of a value brand. I think that price should not be the only consideration here.

Summary: Less Vitamin C than in freshly squeezed juice. Think carefully before you buy.

Good review. Apparently eating cheese after acidic food/drink helps to neutralise the acidity!

For children it might be an idea to have them drink it through a straw, it does help the liquid to by-pass most teeth.
Nice review
