Tesco Value Orange Juice
Advantages: Tastes nice, refreshing, no bits, cheap, keeps well.
I have to confess that brand loyalty is not something I believe in and tend to just purchase whichever product is cheapest and so I have pretty much always purchased Tesco Value Orange Juice. Even with special offers it still tends to work out the cheapest but that's not the only reason I buy it, it is actually rather nice.
Price and Availability.
A litre carton of orange juice currently sets you back the princely sum of 56p. As this is a Tesco Value product I imagine it to be widely available throughout Tesco stores. This juice is long life and so is not found in the refrigerated section, it is found along the drinks aisle.
The product comes in a recyclable cardboard carton, the kind that you have to snip the corner with scissors. This is to be expected from a value product, a screw off lid and pouring spout cost too much these days! This doesn't bother me as I still find the carton easy to pour from and as long as it's stored upright and you're careful no spillage should occur, I always fold the corner back down for that extra bit of security.
The packaging is typically Tesco Value. It has the standard value colour scheme and presents the usual information such as nutritional information, suitable for..., directions, storage etc. For a basic product it does have quite a lot of information and thank fully none of the usual 'like drinking rays of sunshine' statements that usually accompany juice drinks. It does have a image, both front and back, of a cool glass of juice and some ripe oranges which makes this standard product look that little bit more appealing.
As a value juice that is made from concentrate I expected this product to taste quite watery but I was pleasantly surprised to find it tastes quite rich and thick. Don't get me wrong this doesn't taste freshly squeezed but it is very refreshing and very fruity. It doesn't have bits in, which is great as I don't like bits. It does contain a lot of sugar (29% of your GDI per 250ml) but that's a hazard of drinking fruit juice anyway. As the product is long life it doesn't need to be kept in the fridge until it's opened then it's a case of refrigerate and consume within five days but mine is often in the fridge for a bit longer than that and it's fine.
So in conclusion, it looks like orange juice and it tastes like orange juice so as far as I'm concerned I don't need to be paying any more for it. It's a staple product for a bargain price. Bottoms up.
Summary: A good product and a great price.
