Advantages: Tastes okay, very cheap
Disadvantages: A bit chemically, glows in the dark (just kidding)
I'm afraid that, to my unrefined taste buds, orangesquash is generally orange squash, whatever the contents or chemical content, or whether any oranges have ever seen the bottle at all or if it's just orange flavouring. As a result, this one wound up in my trollet, as it was the cheapest on the shelf at the time.
Tesco Value Orange Squash is actually okay, splitting the other two flavours in their current range down the middle, really. The lemon I found quite nice, rather like flat traditional lemonade in a good way, but the blackcurrant was weak and tasted completely of chemicals. Not a fan. The orange squash does have elements where you wonder just exactly how many chemicals you are introducing to your system, but the taste isn't weak like the blackcurrant, and it is sweet without being too sickly.
Yes, it looks very bright, and the picture above isn't all that far off just how bright the colourings have made it, but what is good is the fact that one serving of it will only give you 2 calories, and around 0.2g of sugar, making it not as bad for you as you may think. Okay, so the colourings, flavourings and preservatives don't help your system or your teeth too much, but if you're looking for something tasty to drink as part of a calory controlled diet, then you could do a lot worse. Also, the double concentrate means that you need only use half the usual amount of squash to make a whole glass, increasing its value somewhat.
At just over the 50p mark for a 1.5 litre bottle, this was great value. I'll probably get the orange and the lemon ones again, although we don't really tend to drink a lot of squash in our house, and with 1.5 litres of double concentrate, it might be a while before I need to replenish the supplies. Sure, it's not the nicest tasting orange squash out there, and you can only really drink one or two glasses of it at a time without it feeling a bit sickly, but at the price, it's a bargain, and another good product in Tesco's Value range.
Summary: Decent and cheap orange squash

- 14/05/09 Think I will give this a whirl. I don't drink pop very often so don't like to spend a lot on it... |
