Advantages: Only 47p, but as good as many branded goods.
Disadvantages: Lots of artificial bits in it.
Value products vs branded products........we all have differing opinions of them. Some will say that branded products always taste better, and that you get what you pay for in terms of quality, some will say that supermarket own brands are no different and that you can't tell other than the labelling. Some will apply the "snob value" to their shopping, and others will be buying the cheaper version out of sheer necessity and nothing else.
I always try and buy the cheaper version where possible, but I have decided, over the years, that there are some things that it is not worth (to me) buying anything other than the branded name I am comfortable with.....coffee, for example, is something I have tried to "drop a brand band" with, but have decided to stick with the more expensive, because for me the drop in quality is not worth the saving.
But equally, that means that for many products I have tried over the years, I have been perfectly happy with the cheaper version - I therefore see little point in spending more to get a more "recognised" label. With many "value" products, you can actually get something pretty decent, at a very very reasonable price - you can't go wrong!
For me, the Value Orange Squash from Tesco is one of those that is worth buying again. For 1.5 litres of double concentrate squash, you only pay 47p.....and because it is double concentrate, you only need to use half the amount of "normal" squash, meaning that you are getting twice as much for your money.
Compare this with Robinsons at just over £1 a litre (although it is often on multibuy offer, at 2 for £1.50 or similar) and you can see that this is a very good price, especially as the Robinsons is NOT double concentrate.
I don't drink a great amount of squash, but my children do - and they are perfectly happy to drink this value version. It has No added sugar, which is always a bonus, especially in the summer months, when gallons of squash are consumed in between using "jumpers for goalposts" and jumping on next door's trampoline!
It does have sweeteners, though, and obviously you have to weigh up whether you are happy with the artificial bits that go into a squash like this, but that is the same, whether you are looking at big name brands or value brands.
The taste is, well, orangey! There is no denying it is orange squash, and no having to guess at what it is that you are drinking. Add a couple of ice cubes, and you get a really refreshing drink, or put a jug in the fridge on standby for when your thirst, or the thirst of your monsters, I mean children, needs quenching!
Nutritionwise, a standard glass of diluted squash provides you with just 2 calories 0.2g of sugar and a trace of fat, so if you are watching your weight, this is one you might want to keep in the cupboard.
At the end of the day, it is Orange Squash, you will either like it or you won't.....make your own mind up, but if you DO like it, you have just saved yourself a bit in your shopping budget!
Summary: Go on, give it a try and judge for yourself!
