Advantages: Cheap, long shelf life

Disadvantages: not that tasty or stylish

There a bit controversy about our use of bottled water. Here in the UK we have clean water coming out of the tap but we insist of carrying around bottles of the stuff contributing tonnes of plastic to landfill and spewing carbon into the atmosphere as it is transported around.

I live in a soft water area, the water that comes out of my tap is lovely and I dont have problems like limescale so why do I insist on buying plastic bottles of the stuff?

The problem is my water supply isn't too reliable. Its not like I live in the most remote corner of the country but still Scottish water pump our supply uphill from a reservoir a long way away instead of downhill for a couple of miles. This means we have fairly regular water cuts and I now know that the bottles of water they leave in the street generally disappear before I get to them and the shops quickly run out.

That is why I always have a couple of bottles of tesco value still water in my cupboard. I can tell the difference between water brands, evian is my favourite and this tastes just like normal tap water.

The value packaging is hardly stylish with a plain plastic bottle and their distinctive value label so I wouldn't serve it at a dinner party but at just 17p for two litres it is excellent value for money.

I also keep a bottle in the car in case my water needs topped up or my screenwash needs filling when I am out. It was also handy in the car when I was dogsitting in case the dogs got hot and bothered, I knew I had some fresh water for them.

Not the tastiest or most stylish of waters on the market but is definately one of the cheapest. It has a long shelf life so is ideal to stash a couple of bottles away in case the water doesnt come out of your tap one day.

Summary: Handy for emergencies

Why dont I just store water in a jug? Well in the case of no water coming out of my tap then thats a no brainer. I probably shgould do that for the car though. I wouldnt refill from the tap and store long term in case of potential bacterial contamination, at least if its sealed then I know its safe.

You could always fill the empties from the tap and put them away in case you need them

Aye I agree with Zmugzy, and I don't see the point in bottled water at all, unless you're out and are desparate for some water.
