Advantages: Cheap, Okay Flavour
Disadvantages: Not a strong tea, Need more than one tea bag
I am a teaholic!! I am a teaholic!! Okay I admit it. I've said it loud. Now time for the review. I love a nice cup of tea and drink dozens of cups a week. I know others will like coffee and others coffee and tea, but to me nothing is better than having a nice strong cup of tea.
I suppose it all started off a youngster. My grandad (who has now passed away) used to brew a strong cup of tea (no tea bags back then) and then add full fat milk and 3 tea spoons full of sugar. I used to think it was absolutely gorgeous. I used to love it when he came down. He knew how to make a great cup of tea - or so I thought. My Dads was always weak and it still is today. Even now I comment when I visit how long he's had his tea bag. I really think as soon as I go he hangs it up on the washing line to use on another day!!
Anyway trying to get back on track. I usually cost my tea per bag. So if I am getting charged £2.40 for 80 bags I'm paying 3p a cup. I no longer have sugar (I haven't for a long time) and drink skimmed milk, so I am very sensitive to just how nice the tea leaves taste. My usually brand of tea does cost about 3p a bag in Tesco's but I buy them in Home Bargains for 1p each, which is extremely good value.
As the country is going through a recession, I like most are trying to cut costs were possible. I thought I'd try changing the tea. When I was in Tesco's I noticed that their 250g Tesco Value Tea Bags were 28p for 80. That is a mere 1/3 of a pence for a cup of tea. So I threw a box in the trolley and thought I'd give it a try.
Anyway when I got home I needed a cuppa. So as I was putting the shopping away the kettle was given the 'nod' and before long it started whistling to me in a happy tune. I put my tea bag and milk in the mug (no cups in our house) and poured the boiling hot water in. I know some do it the other way round by adding the tea bag after, but that doesn't give the chance for the kettle to pour over the bag, and needs a lot more stirring. I then gave a stir and would normally have been ready to sit down, but this tea needed stirring and stirring. This was the only way to release the flavour. No matter what I did I could not colour my tea, and as I like it strong I was extremely disappointed. The flavour was there but was very weak. My wife enjoyed hers and no doubt my Dad would have been over the moon.
In order to finish the box off I needed to add 3, yes 3 tea bags to my mug of tea, for it to even taste decent. Well as they cost 1/3 pence each and my normal bags I can get for 1 pence it is not economical for me to buy these. However I would recommend them to those who like weak tea, and I'll certainly get my Dad a box!
Summary: Okay for those who like weak tea.
