Tesco Value Lemon Squash Double Concentrate
by star3683
I have recently been trying many more supermarket own brand products and occasionally the value brands. As we drink mainly cold drinks in our home I do purchase a lot of cordial and when needing a new bottle a few days ago I spotted the Tesco Value, now knows as Everyday Value double strength squash and for the bargain price decided that ... it was worth a try.
The lemon squash can be purchased from larger Tesco stores and is currently priced at just £0.35 for a 750ml bottle. I thought this was fantastic value (pardon the pun) as it contains a good amount of servings as it is double concentrate.
The cordial comes packaged in a clear plastic bottle with a white screw cap lid. There is a plastic label wrapped around the middle of the bottle which is simple in design but displays all the necessary information that you need to know about the squash. It details ingredients listings, allergy advice, nutritional information and preparation guidelines. It also states that the squash is suitable for vegetarians and that the bottle is recyclable.
The squash is a cloudy colour and when you open the bottle you can smell the nice sweet, lemon fragrance which is very pleasant. To make the serve the squash it states to dilute 1 part squash with 9 parts water. I did think that with this being a cheaper product that I would need to use more than stated to get a good taste but this was not the case the instructions were accurate and only a small amount needed to get a good taste.
One of the best things about this squash is that it contains no added sugar and a 250ml serving diluted with water contains just 3 calories. As I am always fairly cautious of not consuming too many calories this makes a great drink for anyone watching there weight or sugar intake. This though does not impact on the taste which is just great. The lemon flavour is quite strong and refreshing with it still being a little tangy. It makes a great thirst quencher and I have also drank it mixed with soda water which makes a brilliant alternative to still water and a healthier option to sugar filled fizzy drinks.
Overall I have been very impressed with this squash it is refreshing and has a great flavour and is as good as some more of the expensive squashes I have purchased. I will certainly be repurchasing this product and would recommend it, for the low price it is worth a try! Read the complete review |

Tesco Value Hot Chocolate
by annav
I love my hot drinks, and love the cadburys hot chocolate, as well as the tesco own brand. To go even further in my brand downgrade challenge that I have started recently I also bought this Tesco value hot chocolate.
The above picture is a bit outdated, as the powder actually comes in a small tin with a pull off lid that can ... be put back on to ensure the product doesnt escape.
Its very cheap at under £1 for 400g, although recently tescos have stopped stocking this product so Im not sure if they make it anymore.
The powder is brown with speckled white bits in it, and the tin was not completely full when I opened it.
It contains milk so is not suitable for those who are lactose intolerant. To use just boil some milk, put 4 heaped tea spoons of the powder in a mug, then pour the milk over stirring as you go. I have found that if you put the powder into the milk it tends to clog up and the powder goes all lumpy and nasty.
The powder is quite coarse compared to other brands, the chocolate does not taste very smooth or even that sweet. It does taste a bit like cheap chocolate but mostly all you can taste is a powdery texture. I have also used the powder in chocolate muffins where I have had slightly more success, although I still would use a higher up brand.
I would say that once I have finished this tin I will go back up to the tesco own brand, or whatever is on offer, as this is not a pleasant experience.
Only if you are desperate for a sweet treat should you buy this! Read the complete review |

Tesco Kick Stimulation Drink
by oChrisoCo
Kick is an energy drink that is sold under Tesco's own brand name. This allows the store to sell it for much cheaper than some of the leading brands of energy drink.
FLAVOUR
First of this stuff tastes horrible, but I still used to drink it. It was so cheap it made it nasty but in my younger years I didn't care how I got ... the energy or hat taste I had to endure. If it was affordable and would give me a boost in energy I would buy it. As this was my local store I visited it more often than other stores and generally only bought this when I was out and about. I would never buy it to take home and sit in the house and drink. I don't believe there has been any attempt to add a flavour to this drink, which means the taste comes from the energy ingredients. I see this much like Red Bull which has the same sort of taste, which I didn't give a good review. So this is in the same boat.
PACKAGING
The bottles come in a silver colour, unlike most bottles which are see through. Why you ask? If you could see the colour of the liquid inside, you probably wouldn't buy it all. I can only liken it to apple juice, which I don't think is a rather appealing colour. (Still don't mind apple juice though) It has a blue label and can be easily identified.
DISTRIBUTION
This can be bought in can and bottle form for prices as low as 30p a can I believe, which is why it appealed to me in my younger days.
Definitely wouldn't go near this product even again unless I was in dire need of energy drink, for what reason I don't know, and it was the only thing I could afford to purchase. So hopefully it's a scenario I won't ever find myself in. Read the complete review |
