Advantages: taste just like ordinary tea, no caffeine

Disadvantages: won't wake you up in the morning

A few years ago I worked in an office with some serious tea addicts. Every 20 minutes someone would either plonk a cup of tea on my desk or poke their head round the door and tell me it was my turn to make a drink and well, I was awash with the stuff! I've never been a huge tea drinker preferring water through the day but at this particular office it was compulsory to drink loads of tea.

As someone who is sensitive to caffeine this didn't bode well for me. I'd get twitchy, jittery, palpatations and be bouncing off the walls by lunch time so I started thinking about decaf. A few weeks into my job I popped to the shop and bought some Tetley decaf teabags and told everyone I would prefer them over ordinary tea. Everyone thought I was a bit of a health freak but after a few raised eyebrows they soon got used to using decaf teabags for my drinks and I stopped with the caffeine jitters. I've continued to use these decaf teabags ever since.

I buy boxes of 80 bags usually as they last me quite a while. They cost around £2 for this amount from any supermarket. The claim is "at Tetley we think decaf should taste just like your normal tea so that's what we've done" and the teabags are decaffeinated to less than 0.2%.

The teabags are round and filled with dried tea leaves, they smell just the same as ordinary tea and make the tea look and smell exactly as you'd expect when water is added, a nice rich brown colour and smell like tea!

I have to say they taste identical to caffeinated tea, if I wasn't told these were decaf I wouldn't have a clue. It's a soothing, aromatic brew. For the sake of this review I tried these teabags on both my brothers, they are both regular tea drinkers and fussy about how it tastes. I didn't tell either of them it was decaf before they drank it and neither of them knew. If they had known no doubt they would have made a fuss but they really had no idea and were both surprised it didn't taste any different to normal tea.

These are perfect for drinking in the evening when you don't want caffeine to keep you awake, they are also better for making "crisis cups of tea" with as caffeine is a stimulant and when in a fluster you don't need anymore energy to add to it! Obviously they lack the caffeine hit you get with normal tea so if you use caffeine to wake you up in the mornings these wouldn't help with that!

For anyone who has been advised to cut caffeine out of their diet these are just the thing or if like me caffeine has a negative effect these are a great choice so you don't have to miss out on your brew. They taste just like ordinary Tetley tea. A cup of tea without milk has 1 calorie in it and not much else but adding milk obviously increases this a bit.

The perfect choice for tea lovers.

Summary: Thoroughly recommended

I have these as well, mainly to keep the caffeine out of my system. I did find they tasted odd at first but now I cant tell the difference.

Sounds like my office! I drink at least 8 cups of tea a day - if not more - so I probably should consider switching to these x
