Advantages: Good for you
Disadvantages: an acquired taste
I recently wrote a review for Twinings Green Tea with Lemon, so I was particularly interested to find out how the Tetley variety compares.
I drink Green Tea because it's good for me. In fact, scientists often claim it can decrease the risk of certain cancers, decrease plaque build up in the mouth, increase metabolism for weight loss, help with arthritis, lower cholesterol, and have many other health related benefits.
The problem is, it doesn't taste very nice - well, not to me anyway.
It's not horrible, but I don't find it completely pleasant. And this is where Green Tea with Lemon comes in. My theory is that the lemon flavour will take the edge off the green tea flavour.
But does it work?
Well... it kind of works, but it's like any fruit tea - you put the tea bag in the cup, and as the boiling water hits the tea bag, the most amazing aroma is produced - you fool yourself into thinking you're going to taste a wonderfully fruity concoction - but you never do. In reality you taste mildly flavoured water.
Tetley's product doesn't really improve on the taste I got from the Twinings variety, and I would say that both flavours are very similar.
Unfortunately my supply of Twinings has run out, so I can't do a side-by-side taste test of the two products, but I will update this review at a later date to publish my findings.
I would recommend brewing this product for a maximum of two minutes - any longer and it can become quite bitter.
Overall this tea is a good option for those of you who need to disguise the flavour of pure green tea, without losing any of the benefits. I would put it on an even keel with Twinings similarly priced product.
Recommended.
Summary: As good as the Twinings version
