Advantages: Healthy and delicious
Disadvantages: May not be to everyone's taste
I was recently diagnosed with allergies to coffee and dairy so I've been looking for an alternative to my daily two cups of coffee. I find herbal teas disgusting and I can drink black tea without milk only if I add freshly squeezed lemon juice. Since I don't fancy storing and squeezing lemons at work, I thought I would to try this flavoured green tea. I chose this brand because Tetley is owned by the Tata group, and I started my career with one of the Tata Group's software companies many years ago!
Taste:
I was afraid it would be like herbal teas and I'd have to throw away the box. However, it turned out to be unexpectedly nice! As soon as you open the box, a strong lemon fragrance fills your nostrils. I love citrus fruits so this always lifts my spirits and makes me smile. Not quite the same as the smell of freshly brewed coffee but not bad at all. The recommended method of brewing the tea (according to the instructions on the box) is with hot water just before it boils but I've tried brewing it with boiling water and there is no difference in the taste. The colour of the tea is a sort of pale browny green that looks a bit strange if you're not used to green tea but isn't unappealing. I soak one tea bag for about a minute and it gets to the flavor I like - mild with a gorgeous lemon flavor overlying it. The lemon fragrance and flavor really lift the taste and it's a brilliant drink to wake you up in the mornings.
Packaging:
I buy the cardboard boxes with 50 tea bags in them as they are easy to keep at work. The boxes are shrink wrapped which makes it a bit difficult to unwrap them since the shrink wrap doesn't have any easy-open tabs and I don't have long nails! The box itself is a lemon colour with the branding in green and blue. It's quite eye catching and tempting - more than one of my colleagues has snaffled a tea bag from my box (must stop keeping it in the office kitchen!) The box itself is a bit flimsy and I wouldn't recommend carrying it around much especially after you've removed the shrink wrap.
Price:
I can't remember how much they cost but in the region of £2. Since I only drink 2 cups a day, 5 days a week at work, one box lasts me about a month and a half.
Summary:
Highly recommended if you like green tea or are looking for an alternative to black tea or coffee. To make it even better, green tea is supposed to be good for you - it's full of antioxidants and is said to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer. Lemon is also good for you and my mum always says that a glass of hot water with lemon in it cleans you out and helps to lose weight. All in all, definitely worth a try.
Summary: Definitely worth a try
