Advantages: tea tastes nicer, Healthier way to drink tea

Disadvantages: Expensive

Around 14 years ago, when I started getting various unexplained symptoms, such as feeling unwell all the time, tired, aching muscles etc. I went to see a homeopath to have an allergy test. She was recommended to me by a friend and I eagerly went along to take the test. To cut a long story short, it turned out later after various medical tests at local hospitals that I had ME, and still do - I'll write about homeopathy in another opinion, and I've already written about ME. She found that amongst many other things I was allergic to, caffeine came out near the top.

She advised me to stop drinking ordinary tea and to change to decaffeinated. I was also to cut out sugar completely. Yeuch....at least for 4 weeks until my taste buds had got used to un-sugared drinks. I decided to try Tetley's Decaffeinated tea bags as these seemed to be the cheapest at the time. For a few weeks I found that the tea was quite a bit weaker than I was used to with my regular tea bags, but as time went on I actually preferred the taste. I had never liked strong tea, but tea bags that contain caffeine are naturally stronger than decaffeinated anyway. I also used to find that a lot of the popular tea bags were so strong that the tea often tasted stewed if you dunked the tea bag for too long. If anything, with decaffeinated tea bags, you have to dunk the bag for just that bit longer. You also find that you can't really make one tea bag do for two cups. Still, never mind!

I now give decaffeinated tea to friends and relatives as this is the only tea I have in the house. Everyone seems to like it, even people who are used to tea so strong that you can stand a spoon up in it!

What is a bit annoying is the fact that it is more expensive than ordinary teabags, being £1.99 - £2.15 depending on whether Sainsbury's has an offer on them. Of course you are able to look around for the best buy in other tea bags.

I would like to see a redu
ction in the price of decaffeinated tea bags of all brands. Instead, the price seems to be going up!

Ooh you poor thing. I can't imagine what it would be like without caffeine. Coffee and tea just wouldn't be the same!
