Advantages: Good Flavour

Disadvantages: A little more expensive than some other brands

As a regular tea drinker, for me it's important to buy a quality product that represents a perfect compromise between flavour and value. This usually results in the purchase of either PG Tips or Tetley - two brands with a rich history. In my opinion, the problem with some of the cheaper supermarket branded teas is that they can a) be extremely weak (even when brewed for a long time), b) have a less than pleasant aftertaste, or c) have no taste at all!

In terms of the company history, brothers Joseph and Edward Tetley began selling in 1822, although it was salt and not tea which defined their early success in retail. Arguably Tetley's greatest contribution to the development of tea occurred in the 1950's, when they introduced the tea bag to the UK market for the first time.

Price & Availability

Tetley Tea isn't cheap, but it's not extortionate either - a box of 40 tea bags retails at 89p (2.2p per bag) - 5p cheaper per box than the PG Tips equivalent size. The tea is available from all UK supermarkets, and from most smaller grocery shops.

Flavour
- - - - -
Tetley Tea Bags have a well rounded and full flavour which isn't too strong and isn't too weak. Compared to PG Tips, I would find it difficult to choose a favourite - that said, I know there are those amongst you who have a strong preference for one over the other.

Many tea bags have a gimmick - with PG Tips it's the pyramid shaped bags - whereas with Tetley it's the circular design. Whilst I can't see how this would adversly effect the flavour, I can't see how it would help it either - that said, the tea does make a pleasing cuppa. Therefore, if a satisfying and relaxing cup of tea is what you're after, I would have no hesitation in recommending Tetley Tea Bags.

Summary: Great Tea
