Advantages: 100% tea, no other ingredients, not at all bitter
Disadvantages: Slightly more expensive than Supermarkets own brands
So winter is upon us and there is nothing I like more than on these cold winters evenings than pulling the curtains, putting the TV on and making myself a lovely cup of tea! I love my cups of tea and sometimes prefer them to an alcoholic beverage (I can hear the gasps already!) but it is true, I do love a cuppa!
If you have read any of my past reviews then you will have learned that I am always on the look out for a bargain and I do admit to trying various Supermarkets brands of teabags but they really do not meet the high standard of tea that is set by Tetley Tea, it is that old fact that sometimes you really do get what you pay for and when I buy the Tetley Teabags in my opinion I really am getting good value for money, even if they are slightly more expensive compared with shops own brand prices, give me Tetley any day!
Tetley is the world's second largest manufacturers of tea and it is the United Kingdoms largest tea company. The brand offers a variety of different options of teabags such as:
~ Green Tea
~ Decaffeinated Teabags
~ Organic teabags
~ Extra Strong Teabags
~ Fruit Infusions teabags
However it is the original Tetley Teabags that I love and will always be a favourite of mine. AS I tend to buy most of my food in Tescos I have listed below the prices and weights that you can buy the teabags for from the store:
40 Bags (125g) £1.15
80 Bags (250g) £1.91
160 Bags (500g) £3.00
240 Bags (750g) £4.61
I am guessing that most Supermarkets will charge about the same for the bags as they are all quite competitive. You can occasionally find the teabags on an offer such as a reduction in the original cost or the bags come with a specific percentage free. I tend to go with what I can find on offer, if not for storage reasons I go with the 160 bag product.
The bag itself is instantly recognisable. It is royal blue in colour and has the number of bags contained inside the packet in bold green and white numbering. The Tetley logo (In white) is displayed all over the packet as well as taking central place on the front. The rest of the packaging is really simple. The back of the product tells you the most important factor for me, which the only ingredients used in the teabags, is 100% tea! The sides of the packet contain where you can find more information about Tetley and its other products, website is www.tetley.co.uk or you can phone on a free phone number, 0800 387227.
There is also a small piece of nutritional information on the packet, each teabag contains 1 calorie, not bad especially if you are good and have your tea without sugar which I do and I also use skimmed milk.
The bag has a sticker on it which when you have emptied some teabags out (I can only get so many into my canister) you can then re-seal the bag adding to the freshness of the product.
The tea bags themselves are round and are about 7cm in diameter. They are also fairly strong and I have never opened a packet where I have found a teabag to be ripped or stuck to another.
Onto the most important thing then, the taste of the tea. I have to say that I am very impressed with the taste of the Tetley Tea Bags and as soon as I open a bag for the first time the smell of the tea is really strong, just how I like it! As previously stated the teabag contains nothing else other than 100% tea, a teabag contains no fat which is just what I like to hear and tea also counts towards part of your daily fluid intake which is also a good think as some days I can drink quite a few mugs of the stuff!
When making my tea I add a decent amount of milk but the tea is till a lovely brown/beige colour which goes to show that the teabag is pure tea. The tea is not at all bitter and to me is how tea should taste. The tea is really easy to drink and is lovely and smooth and I have never had a bag split whilst drinking or making it so you are never left with any leaves at the bottom of your cup.
Speaking of the leaves, as you add your hot water you can see them diffusion in your cup/mug and you are left with a really strong cuppa which can be made weaker depending upon individual taste, what is important is that the tea is so fresh and tastes fantastic.
I would have no hesitation what so ever in recommending these teabags. They maybe slightly more pricey than Supermarkets own brands but to me they taste better, smell fantastic and above all make a fantastic cup of tea.
5 out of 5 from me and on that note I am off to make a cuppa!
Thanks for reading.
Mel.
Summary: Theres nothing better in my opinion! Go get yourself a cuppa!
