Advantages: Clean, clear refreshing
Disadvantages: Simply none
I like nothing more than to relax with a good scotch but it must be GOOD. For me there is nothing better than a single malt with a name behind it, a name which in itself, when spoken, brings to mind the flavour of the region from whence it came. Of late I have been concentrating more on Islay malts savouring their rich peaty taste with a slight hint of iodine. I don't have to name them as they are household names to the true malt lover. I have sampled, at length, just about all the other malts too from all the five regions and each has its own individual attribute. However, I do have favourites and one of those is Glenlivet, or should I say The Glenlivet. I have a glass in front of me right now and its clean amber colour is so inviting. The taste is clean, clear and fresh with a hint of !!! I can't put this in words but it has a distinctive taste on the palate and leaves for a few seconds a delightful freshness in the mouth that is unique. It is, as I am sure you know, a Speyside malt, and has been distilled in the Glenlivet distillery for some two hundred years. These people know their job and excell with this whisky. It is expensive but you do have to pay for quality like this, for me it is not expensive compared to the sheer joy and pleasre you get from drinking it, drinking nice and slow, savouring every last drop. For me it has to have added a modest drop or two of water to enhance and release the aroma. I have just partaken of another glass and I think for the next few weeks this will be my choice from my reasonably well stocked supply which includes a good range of choice from every region in Scotland. I am hosting a small party tomorrow so I will have to bring out my blended scotch, there is no way I will share my malts, for the guests it will have to be the £9 variety stuff. The cost of The Glenlivet is in the region of £26 but sometimes a little cheaper, not bad at all when you think about it, some
of my malts cost two or three time as much. For me, The Glenlivet is one of the best, I will not in all honesty say 'the best' but it has qualities that put it up there at the top. UUUUmmmmm! must go, I need to pour another, will you join me?
