Advantages: Tasty and refreshing

Disadvantages: Strong drink bad hangovers

My hubbie has always been a beer drinker, he’s loves the bottles of real ale and often buys them if we’re staying in and watching a D.V.D.
When we go up north to visit family he usually stocks up with bottles of Theakston Old Peculier as for some reason it’s cheaper up there than down south.
The brew is made in Yorkshire by T&R Theakston Ltd which probably has something to do with the price up north compared to the one down south, but every now and again you can find them on offer at the supermarket.
This is when my hubbie stocks up, as if your buying them on offer at five bottles for £6 then it’s cheaper than the usual price of £1.75 a 500ml bottle.

The bottles are a very dark brown glass, which helps to keep the beer cool whilst it’s on the shelf in the supermarket.
The bale inside is also a dark ale with a good head when you pour it into a glass.
The test of a good ale is if the head of it remains all the time on the ale to the end of the drink.
If you notice in the pubs most lagers seem to lose their heads as do some bitters.
This rich strong ale has a very distinctive taste, you can really taste the hops which are usually added at the end of the making of a beer. Hops are well known for helping you to sleep and if your accustomed to drinking real ales, you probably will know that if you have a few your going to fall into a deep sleep and probably snore.

This is a relaxing drink, which can be drunk anytime, it is available in some pubs which sell real ale from a cask. This is the best way to buy it but if this isn’t available to you then the bottles are just as good.
The ale seems to travel well to sometimes we go to pubs down here in the south and the northern beers seem to taste different then when you buy them up north. Theakstons always seems to deliver a good pint though and is thoroughly enjoyable.

The dark strong ale isn’t one which you should glug down as believe me it is a heavy beer and you will are most likely to get drunk quickly and have one mother of a hangover the day after.
It is the kind of ale which has to be savoured, drank slowly and in a relaxed atmosphere this will delight the palate of the real ale drinker.
If like me your not a very hardy drinker it can at first taste be off putting, but with a bit of perseverance the taste buds will become accustomed to the strong malty, hop flavour.

Enjoy.
