Dark Smooth (Mild) by Thwaites is a great way to start off an evening on the town and to leave a nice lining on your stomack. It's full bodied but not as full bodied as a stout, it isn't very gassy so doesn't make you burp as much as larger *spit* and it tastes great!

Thwaites is a family brewery that has been brewing in Blackburn for nigh on 250 years (although it wasn't always called Thwaites) and it definately shows why it is now the only brewery in the Blackburn area (there were more than 90).

The beer (as suggested by the name) is dark, close to the darkness of Guinness but not quite there. It tastes quite similar to a really nice Smooth but is even Smoother (much Smoother).

It is brewed according to the promise of the Thwaites brewery - "Using the best and most up-to-date methods of brewing to achieve the utmost standards of perfection..." - and the perfection is definately achieved, it's the best Dark Smooth that I have ever tasted and better than nine out of ten milds as well.


If you're ever in Blackburn pop into a pub and order a pint of this (or any other) Thwaites brew, you will most definately be pleasantly surprised.


(Thwaites have said that they are looking to extend the sale of their canned beer further south and east, so keep and eye in a 'Offy' near you!)
