Thwaites Wainwright:
... his guidance and reading his commentaries along the way. His chatty, friendly, amusing narratives have guided millions of ramblers to the summits of the various peaks for over 50 years. A memorial to this great man can be found in Buttermere. But now brewer, Daniel Thwaites, based in Wainwright s home town of Blackburn, Lancashire, has produced its own memorial, a Golden Ale which bears his name. A 500ml bottle ... Thwaites Smooth Beer ... not touch this beer with the proverbial barge pole. In fact avoid any beer that is dead and dispensed with nitrogen. This is the beer equivalent to cardboard. Its quality is consistent but boring. It tastes of virtually nothing. A sort of watered down malt and hop soup, injected with nitrogen to give it the appearance of a body and some life It is served with a creamy head which is wrong for a start; good ale does not come with a head. A head on ale is a sign of a badly dispensed pint. This is an ale for people that don t like ale, and, or have no knowledge of it. If I walked into a pub and this was the only ale on offer I d walk straight out again. Do not confuse th... Read the full review: Ale Murder! by RealAleNet |

Thwaite's Lancaster Bomber ... Thwaite's Brewery is based in Blackburn, Lancashire. The brewery dates back to 1807; brewing began then, but the present building was actually built in 1966. Thwaites use traditional recipes, combined with new technology, to produce a good selection of Cask Ales. In recent years the range has been reduced, but they still remain committed to brewing seasonal and regular beers. Thwaites also encourage visitors to go on tours of the brewery - there's a museum and evening tours, which include supper and four free drinks (a bargain for £9.50 a head!). Some Thwaite's beers you may find (in 500ml bottles or draught) include Daniel's Hammer (a season... Read the full review: Bombs Away! by tange |

Thwaites Mild ... I can. Mostly this involves drinking and talking about beer ~ it's VERY difficult and such a HARDSHIP (not)! May is officially classed as Mild Month and Mild Day is 10th May. We are going out on a trip around a few pubs in Derbyshire sampling this often hard to get hold of style of beer. In honour of this occasion I thought I should tell you about a really good example of a Mild; Thwaites Mild. I have already given a brief outline of the history of Mild as a style of beer in previous opinions on Milds (e.g. Cains Dark Mild, Batemans Dark Mild and Theakstons Mild), so I won't repeat all that (if you do want to know more leave me a comment and I'...
