Advantages: The only drink that i truly enjoy.
Disadvantages: A little pricey.
In my youth I was never what you might call a "binge drinker", more for the simple reason that although I could probably manage a few shorts or bottles of "pop", before falling over, I never really found anything I could drink for the enjoyment of, it was always going for the drink that got me drunk the quickest!
I was introduce to Tia Maria in my early twenties by my then best friend, if not for her dad owning a pub, I may never have heard of this drink, god bless her!!
The product description states that this liqueur is an "intriguing blend of smooth coffee and vanilla tones and with the secret Jamaican recipe, reveals a timeless allure".
I have to be truthful... yes I can taste the coffee and vanilla tones, but only because I was told that was what it tasted of , let me explain further.
Upon opening a bottle and taking the first sniff of this delicious concoction, all I can smell is an almost medicinal smell, pleasant and warming, yes, but coffee and vanilla no!
I have always drank this with coke, admittedly over the years the shots of liqueur have become increasingly larger than the shots of the mixer, but that's beside the point.
The only way I can describe the taste to you is , it's like drinking an intensely sweet and creamy glass of coke........mmmmmm.
The colour of the liqueur is a rich brown colour, the same colour as the bottle it comes in and it seems to coat the glass in a slick of alcoholic gorgeousness.
I have tried drinking this in many different cocktails over the years, some successfully (black Russian - Tia - Maria, vodka and coke), and some not so (Winky Woo - Tia - Maria, gin and babycham....... Absolutely bloody awful!)
I always come back to the original and best way of drinking it!
I do, however have one complaint.... The price!
For a medium sized bottle, (70cl), it will set you back £12.97, and it does every time I go shopping!
The larger bottle will set you back a staggering £16.97....ouch.
My nan made me laugh on my thirtieth birthday in February. Her knowing my love of this drink, decided to but me a bottle, she is however living on a smallish pension so after shopping around, found she could only afford to buy me the small bottle at the price of £8.00ish, she was so pleased with her purchase, I didn't have the heart to tell her it only held two drinks worth!
CONCLUSION - Worth the money, I was going to say no, but I still buy a bottle every other week, my need outweighs anything else!!
Thanks for reading x
Summary: A delicious drink that makes me happy and tiddly!
