What is Tia Maria

Tia Maria is a liqueur spirit with the distinct taste of coffee. It is produced by Pernod Ricard and is made in Jamaica using Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee beans. The main ingredients are coffee beans, cane spirit, vanilla and sugar.

Pouring the drink.

I have my tumbler at the ready with a couple of ice cubes placed inside in order to chill my drink slightly as that how I generally like my spirits. When poured the liquid is dark brown in colour but not of a thick consistency or guppy but it does cling slightly to the sides of the glass, just enough so you can see a faint coating whilst looking at the glass.

Taste

Devine blend of alcohol and coffee with a lovely sweetness, move over Nescafe wish could have this in my coffee mug instead. Have swirled it around in my mouth to get the benefit of the full flavour and my taste buds have exploded with the flavour. Once swallowed there is no change to the flavour that lingers in my mouth nor is there a nasty aftertaste that you sometimes get with coffee flavoured drinks whether alcoholic or not.

What can we do with this other than drink it neat?

Well we have discovered that this can be drunk with ice, or without dependant on your personal choice but also this little number is a very versatile mixer so lets start with one of my favourites

The Black Russian

1 shot Tia Maria, 1 shot Vodka, mix with coke as desired.

Taste is spectacular and the combination of the Tia Maria and the Vodka make it a very feel very smooth in your mouth and completely complement each other. Don't drink too many though as they are lethal.

The After Eight - some skill required to get this one right.

You need a sherry glass for this one along with Tia Maria, Crème de Menthe and Baileys original.

What you have to do is layer the drink starting at the bottom with the Tia Maria, the add the Crème de Menthe, you want it to float on top of the Tia Maria and then top with the Baileys, almost looks to good to drink. Taste explosion in your mouth and far better than drinking Baileys with a hint of Choc and mint and much more lethal, just one a day for these I think. If you don't like Crème de Menthe then this can also be made without it in the same way by layering the drinks with the Tia Maria at the bottom.

Or you could always just add a shot to your coffee to perk it up a bit at the end of a day.

There are lots of other way to drink Tia Maria and I am sure that you have your own preferences but hope you like mine.

Summary: A good coffee flavoured liquer.

Not my sort of drink... If I were to drink a coffee flavoured liquer it would have to be Toussaint. Tastes more like coffe and is much, much less sweet! John
