Disadvantages: Pricey
Tia Maria is a great liqueur sprit. The History of this drink can be tracked back to over 300 years to Jamaica. Tia Maria is produced from coffe beans that have been harvest from the foothills of the blue mountain peak range on the island of jamaica. The coffee beans are processed and the liquid distilled to produce a coffee flavoured alcoholic concentrate that is shipped worldwide for secondary processing and bottling. The Coffee Beans are cracked (NOT fully ground) in the Roaster and then the coffee bean extract is transfered to several containers or Vats. Water is added to these containers which also contain Vanillin and an amount of Citric Acid. Alcohol at 96% Proof is then added to the Coffee Bean Extract, Water, Vanillin and Citric Acid. This filtration produces the Alcoholic Concentrate. There is a 2nd filtration process that takes place to ensure all of the coffee bean extract is used in the alcoholic concentrate. A second water filtration takes place in the initial containers to effectively "flush" out the remaining coffee bean extract. This Alcoholic Concentrate is then added tanother container/Vat. This produced what is known as the Tia Maria Concentrate at 32.4% ABV for Dumbarton. This Tia Maria Concentrate is produced at the Production Plant in Jamaica (although a slightly different concentrate is produced in Argentinao Liquid Sugar. The drink itself is sweet but has a nice taste and most people drink it with coke. But now you can make so many diffrent cocktails with this sprit, what can i say. The price is not too bad also, usually about £13.99 a bottle.
