Tiger beer is a pale lager served in a nice-looking brown 330 ml adorned by a…wait for it…tiger! If you prefer cans I have spotted some cans in odd places lately but they don’t seem to be widespread yet so you may have to look around for a while. You can pick up a four pack at your local Sainsbury’s for £3.00 or thereabouts and it’s well worth the price I think. This may sound expensive to some though but make it an occasional treat and you won’t have to worry about it.


The taste is quite light and refreshing and leaves you wanting more and more. It’s perfect for a hot summer’s day (although we don’t seem to have had any of those in the past couple of weeks or so) and works quite well with your Saturday night pizza too. It does leave a faint aftertaste which lasts for a few minutes but that’s about it. It is not very fizzy, supposedly this is because it was originally mainly served in curry houses as a complement to a meal and the fizz allows you both to eat more and taste more. In fact Tiger in general does market itself as a taste of Asia and is now also often seen in connection with Asian martial art movies and at “typically” Asian events.


It’s been brewed in Asia ever since 1932 and has won several awards for its crisp, clean taste the world over. Even though it’s fairly light it contains abv 5% so don’t be fooled into thinking that 10 of them will not affect you.


In all this is a tasty beer, definitely worth a try even if you don’t like curries!
