Advantages: Long session beer, Excellent taste
Disadvantages: Expensive
Tiger beer is the true Asian beer. The Tiger demands respect in Asia and throughout the world. Asia Pacific Breweries in Singapore, which is a joint venture between Frasers & Neave and Heineken NV, brew it (No wonder I like the taste). Tiger beer is the predominant brand of the company and was first brewed way back in 1932. Tiger beer is immensely popular throughout Asia and especially South East Asia. My first experience with Tiger Beer was surprisingly in Sierra Leone (West Africa). The reason why I ended up drinking Tiger beer there was because we had exported a 20ft. container load directly from Singapore to Sierra Leone of ABC Stout, which is also manufactured by Asia Pacific Breweries. In that container we had included 10 trays x 24 cans of Tiger Beer just for trial purposes. So that was my first experience with Tiger beer and this was way back in 1992-93. I must say at that time I was quite excited in trying it out since I had heard so much about it. After all it is a very famous beer. It is a dry-hopped beer and has a rich taste. It is a great beer if you want a long drinking session. My initial reaction was that it tasted quite strong. However after a several large sips your taste buds gradually get used to the invasion of hops and the strong taste is replaced with a rich one with a lingering bitter finish. It is an extremely refreshing beer and I find that it goes very well with food, especially with peppery and spicy dishes. Tiger is a Pilsner lager beer and the alcohol content is a moderate 5%. It tastes stronger than this though. It is quite pale in colour compared to other lager beers. It is available mostly in 33cl. bottles, although I understand that it is also available in 500ml bottles too. The label is predominantly red in colour with the unmistakable picture of the “Tiger” in a striking yellow colour, on the top part of the label. Tiger beer is easily available in the U.
K.. Personally I have never purchased some myself but have always had this beer at an Indonesian restaurant in London’s West End, which I frequently visit. After a bit of checking around I have found out that you could purchase the 33cl. bottles on the Internet from anywhere between £1.50 to £2.10 a bottle. Sure it’s pretty expensive but what would you expect from a beer that is acclaimed as the best beer in the world, for two years in a row. They also have a wonderful, savvy and ultra modern website at: www.tigerbeer.com. Flash player is required and it is really quite different from other beer manufacturers websites. A lot of creativity has gone into the site with the younger age group predominantly in mind. Back to my Richter Scale. I’ll give this one 8/10. Obviously I am quite impressed with it and I’m sure you will be too.
