Many moons ago I started drinking Real Ale. The main reason for this was that I wanted a beer that actually tasted of something! I also wanted to know what was in the beer I was drinking and to support the Independent breweries (the bloke on the Real Ale Society stall at Fresher?s week at Uni was pretty hot too). That was back in 1990 and I have sampled a few good and bad beers since then. Many beers (and breweries) have come and gone and some have become classic drinks that you would think have been going forever. One such beer is Timothy Taylor Landlord. ~~~THE ... Hubby loves to go for an early evening pint, another excuse for a good natter really. The little local pub that he frequents has a landlord that has won a lot of awards for his beer, he is a keen member of CAMRA and regularly introduces not only new beers but ciders too. Many of the draught ciders have a very high ABV, in other words they look enticing but more than a pint or so would be lethal. There is an art to keeping keg beer, it needs nurturing. When the brewery delivers the keg to the landlord it has to `rest` in the cellar for a day before it is tapped, then it has a limited life, so the landlord has to be fairly sure that he has chosen a beer that is popular ... I have been a member of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) for longer than I can remember. During all of that time one universal truth has held sway without at any time faltering in the face of competition. Timothy Taylor's Landlord is the greatest beer of all time. So much has the myth of Landlord dominated thinking that this honour has never been seriously challenged. It has been a regular winner of CAMRA's Supreme Champion. You may ask, if it really is that good, why doesn't it win every year. Well, that would be boring! It would be to deny that there are any other great beers around and that certainly isn't true. ... As a young English male (yes, I do still consider myself young....athough I am fast approaching 30!) I was, and still am to some extent, one of the individuals of whom GrahamT described in an earlier opinion. I still remember my first sip of beer from my dad's pint. I remember the horrible bitter taste far from that of the lemonade to which I was accumstomed. This was a real ale, something which I, along with the majority of my generation, have avoided like the plague ever since. I am a lager drinker through and through. Belgian Stella Artois, Dutch Carlsberg, American Budweiser.....but what happened to the British beers? No, I don't mean Carling Black Label. I ... Read the complete review

First, approach the bar. Look along the brassy taps, hoping against hope...oh..uh...yes! Its there! Every time I go to a pub, I hope this beer is served. Increasingly, it is. Often served in Tetley heritage houses, and in small independant pubs, I drink this whenever I get the chance. First - the pint. It shouldn't be pulled too hard - get the bar lass to loosen the sparkler a bit (screw on thingy-bob on the bit where the beer comes out - makes beer artificially fizzy). Get your pint (never a half!) and wait for it to settle - not too long hopefully. The beer should be nice and clear, with a small frothy head - none of your creamy nonsense. A pale ...
