Advantages: Deeeeeelicious!
Disadvantages: none!
I go through phases of wanting to drink fruit juices - normally I am happy to drink coffee all day, all year round.....or if I want a cold drink, I tend to drink fizzy water.
So, when I do decide to buy fruit juice, I like to buy something decent - it is almost a treat for me and I really need to fancy whatever I am pouring into my glass.
Tropicana have been reliably producing orange juice for many many years, and I have been a great fan of their products, especially the orange juice "with bits". However, pure orange juice can become a bit "samey" and so if you are looking for something just a little bit different, you could do worse than trying their Orange and Mango juice.
This drink is made from 82% orange juice and 18% Mango puree.......and that's it! No extra water, sugar, salt, chemically things, and what's more, the juice is NOT FROM CONCENTRATE!
So as you can see, it is about as simple as it gets!
And for something so so simple, it is soooo tasty, it is almost untrue! The taste of the mango is unmistakeable, very noticeable, but not overpowering. The wonderful sweetness of the mango complements the slight sharpness of the oranges beautifully.
The juice itself is quite thick and smooth - not quite as thick as a smoothie, but it is half way between a standard juice and a smoothie in my opinion.
The taste is very tropical, and certainly gives you a taste of summer (well, it might be the closest we get to summer this year!!).
The best way to serve this, as a straight drink, is chilled from the fridge, with a couple of ice cubes if you have them. Drink it for breakfast with your cereal for a fruity start to the day, at lunchtime for a zesty pick you up, or indeed, at any point in the day if you want a bit of zing!
If you want to add an extra bit of "kick" then having this juice with vodka makes a nice change to the usual "vodka and orange".
One idea that works really well if you have got some of those "make it yourself lollipop" sets from tupperware or lakeland, is to pour some of this juice straight into the lolly mould and put it in the freezer - it makes a very very refreshing treat on a summer's day.
Nutritionwise, it is not bad at all - if you drink it in moderation......a 330ml glass (a good size glass) gives you 149 calories and 0g saturated fat. A glass of that size gives you one of your five portions of fruit and veg a day - easy peasy, orange squeezy.
So there you have it, a simple, tropical, taste sensation. Perfect for those summer days (even if it is raining!).
Summary: An easy way to get one of your five a day!
