...Introduction..
Following on from my review of Seabrook crinkle cut crisps yesterday I have decided to review another of the things we had whilst watching the Manchester United v Chelsea in the Champions league final and that was Tuborg lager. Here's how it came about.
About a couple of hours before the match started a friend and myself went up the road to a local off licence to pick up some more beers. I had 8 bottles of Carlsberg Export and 1 can of Grolsch. As there werent many offers on the stuff we knew we liked we took a chance with Tuborg, a drink we hadnt had before.
...Tuborg...
Tuborg was opened in 1873 and is one of the biggest beer manufacturers in Denmark second only to Carlsberg in worldwide sales of Danish beers. The Tuborg company are based in Denmark's capital city Copenhagen.
This particular beer I am reviewing from Tuborg is the UK Version called Tuborg Green and it was first brewed in 1880. And it is by royal appointment of the Danish Court. This particular beer is 4.6% abv which is stronger than the standard Carlsberg which is only 3.8% abv.
...Availiablity...
It is quite widely available in the United Kingdom which may suprise some people as it's not as well known as the main lagers and beers. You wil find it in places that have a wide range of beers like a supermarket and also of course Off Liceneses. You will be able to pick up a pack of eight 275ml bottles for around about £4 and you will also be able to buy pints of the drink in some pubs and clubs depending on where you live. If you look out for this you should have no trouble finding it.
...The Bottle...
The bottle is the normal green colour and shape of a beer bottle but the thing that makes it stand out is that the bottle has a different opening system to the standard cap. It has a lever that you pull and it will make a popping sound and then the cap comes off. I prefer the normal cap as you don't always know where this different cap will go.
The bottles have a nice design print on them with Tuborg in capital letters surrounded by a green band and then the crown signifying that the drink is appointed to the royal Danish court. So with all that stuff sorted out what about that taste
...The Taste...
This is a very nice tasting lager and is one of the nicest ones I have discovered recently. It has a nice refreshing feel to it that some lagers don't give you and it is also distinctive enough to attract a new breed of fans to the drink. It has a very clean, crisp taste which adds to the overall package.
This Tuborg holds up very well against more well known lagers, this is a great message to people looking for a nice lager that isnt as widely known as the likes of Fosters, Stella Artois or Carling or Carlsberg for instance.
...Overall...
I am very impressed with this lager and will definetly be buying it many times again. If you havent tried this lager and like trying different drinks then try it. Danish Lagers are some of the best in the world and this Tuborg holds up very well indeed.
Summary: Great tasting lager

- 24/05/08 It's unclear what Tuborg beer you are talking about since there are about 30 of them and thus not very helpful for the reader. If you can define that more clearly, I'll adjust the rating ;) |
