Advantages: Calming, cleverly balanced flavours

Disadvantages: None come to mind

Another day, another Twinings flavour. I was intrigued at this particular product, not only because I am a fan of twinings, but because they had done something new with camomile tea. Having suffered from stress a lot in the past, I'm used to the calming properties of camomile, and have drunk camomile tea many times. I never enjoyed it particularly thoughm and bought it purely for it's medicinal value.

On the bag, the familiar camomile scent is there, but it's a background to the stronger smells of honey and vanilla. These too are great choices for a calming drink.

The smell as it is brewing is similar; the honey is the stronger smell, but the vanilla is also very apparent. Anyone who was not familiar with the scent of camomile would probably not even notice it in the background, but it's quite definite to me. Waiting for it to cool, the smell is very sweet indeed.

Interestingly, on tasting, the main flavour is actually camomile. I had worried from the smell that it would be too sweet; it isn't, but I would not recommend adding extra sugar or honey to this one. In fact, the taste is much more subtle and pleasant than the smell. The honey and vanilla flavours make the drink sweet and smooth and pleasantly scenty, and although I am not keen on camomile as a flavour, it's balanced excellently and works very well with the others.

This will definitely be my camomile tea of choice from now on, and I would particularly recommend it to those looking for an alternative to pure camomile, or who have never tried camomile tea before.

As always, this is caffiene free (probably particularly appropriate for a drink intended to be calming!) and is made with all natural ingredients. The box contains 20 bags and usually costs about 80p to £1 in my experience.

Summary: A great new take on calming camomile tea.
