My daughter was on a dairy free diet and her mother in law gave her some Earl Grey tea to drink. It was along time since I had drunk it and so we tried some and enjoyed it. My husband actually admitted he enjoyed it more than ordinary tea which he had never liked since he gave up sugar many years ago! Earl Grey tea was named after Charles Grey. He was Prime Minister to King William IV in the early 19th century. The legend is that the Earl was given the recipe by a Chinese mandarin with whom he was friends, and whose life he had saved, although there are variations on this tale! The tea gets its unusual flavour from oil of Bergamot, which is a small ... Read the complete review

When not drinking Demmers Tea (from the eponymous tea-house in Vienna), I have to make do with Twinings, which is available at my local Billa and Interspar supermarkets, although I do prefer to go to Demmers to buy their tea, and to treat myself. Earl Grey Tea is named after the person for whom the tea was blended, the Second Earl Grey, who worked tirelessly for the reform of working conditions, and is also to blame for the laws that prevent children being stuck up chimneys as much as they previously were (all this happened in the 1830s). The tea is a blend of Indian and Ceylon black teas that has been blended with bergamot oil, which is what gives it ... Read the complete review

Tea. Such a small word but with so many different interpretations, especially when it comes to flavour and effect. Certain teas can calm and relax you while others have the ability to freshen and enliven a jaded mind or body. The blend of tea which has earned my personal respect is known as ‘Earl Grey’. However, my regard for this particular blend does not end there. I first discovered Earl Grey in the refectory of my college (who says college life teaches you nothing of true value ?) I had been in the habit of drinking a mid-brown coloured brew, strongly reminiscent of ‘chocolate’, but not strongly enough to be ... Read the complete review

I am very, very fussy about my tea. I drink around 10 cups a day and have a giant latte mug full in a morning to get me going. For me 'normal' tea is Earl Grey because it is what we always had in the house when I was growing up, any other tea? Well I can drink it and its better than nothing but it doesn't hit the spot in quite the same way. Twinings is by far the best brand of Earl Grey and it always amazes me how much the flavour can change with other brands, quite far removed from the Twinings blend, I know I would be able to pick a cup of Twinings Earl Grey out of a line up with other brands, it is the flavour I am most familiar with but it is also ... Twinings Earl Grey Tea Twinings and Tea are virtually synonymous, the history of the company going back centuries. Thomas Twining actually opened the first known tea room in 1706, a building that still stands in the Strand, London to this day. In 2006, Twinings celebrated its 300th anniversary, with new teas, a special anniversary tea, associated tea caddies and updated product packaging. When I want a nice cup of tea but something with a bit more taste to it I often reach for the Earl Grey tea, one of my favourites. Earl Grey however is definitely an acquired taste and I believe you either love it or you hate it, there is no in between. ... Read the complete review
