Advantages: Fruity, remedial
Disadvantages: Empty flavour, adding honey makes it sickly
This review is based on my experience of drinking Twinings' Raspberry and Echinacea tea. This tea is part of the company's Fruit Infusions range, and contains fruity taste as well as the herbal effects in the form of echinacea.
The Company
Twinings is a company founded in 1706. It has grown over 3 centuries to the point where it supplies over 200 different types of tea, including regular breakfast tea, brown tea, green tea, herbal teas and fruit teas.
Raspberry and Echinacea Tea
The first thing you notice is that the box has a perforated strip allowing you easy access but also the opportunity to keep the box closed and fresh. The smell is quite sweet, but not sickly. On adding hot water, the sweet smell is enhanced, and you can smell a more herbal aspect, ie. the echinacea.
The taste is refreshing, but with most fruit teas, I find it quite 'empty', and not a full flavour. A spoonful of honey does the trick, making the drink fuller in taste, but this does also enhance the sweetness, making it slightly sickly.
Echinacea's is used in herbal remedies to combat the common cold and to help boost the body's immune system. The effect it has in tea is somewhat lessened, but, having this tea on a number of occasions, I find it a nice way of taking a herbal remedy (however slight) at the same time as hiaving a refreshing hot drink.
Conclusion
This to me rates as 4 stars as far as hot drinks go. A bit of taste is sacrificed for herbal remedy, but it is still a very nice drink.
Twinings Raspberry & Echinacea hot drink is available in packs of 20 from Tesco for £0.91, and also in other stores, although Tesco seem to offer the cheapest.
Thanks for reading.
