Advantages: Tons of healthy claims
Disadvantages: Can taste rather awful
I make sure I drink at least one cup of green tea a day. I have tried and tested many different brands and concoctions. Some have been favorable and others absolutely awful. If you are new to this green tea lark, then on its own it can have a very strong taste and an pungent smell. So why drink something that can taste so dreadful?
Well green tea is claimed to be a fantastic antioxidant, "which can help protect the body from damage caused by free radicals". It also boosts your metabolism which speeds up digestion. Some have argued their weight loss is due to drinking numerous cups of green tea everyday (if only dieting were so simple!).
Green tea was discovered in China thousands of years ago. It was only introduced to the Western world recently and has now become extremely popular. However, with the strong taste you need to have a selective palate, so many brands have introduced green tea with another, more pleasant flavour.
Twinings Green Tea and Lemon comes in a 40g green box. Inside the box are 20 individual tea bags. I was surprised when I opened the box as I was expecting individually sealed bags with tags, but was greeted by 20 untagged teabag's. I found this either very old fashioned or a method of cost cutting. The teabag's looked as if they came from the 1980's!
Twinings use all natural ingredients, but they are not organic. One cup of green tea has only one calorie, so you can see how beneficial it is, but water is just as refreshing and free!
Now to the drink itself. You can brew your green tea for approximately two minutes, in boiling water. If you find it too strong, I would suggest try one minute initially. The first thing I noticed about this drink was the lovely lemony smell, it really was inviting. Now here is a huge point, do NOT add milk to your green tea, never, the two do not go!
Green tea and Lemon is a very pleasant drink (for a seasoned green tea drinker). The taste of lemon takes away the strong green tea flavour. It is very zesty and can be drank hot or cold. I will definitely be buying this blend again, as I enjoyed the tea right down to my last sip. With usual green tea, the last sip never seems to come!
So, if you are a novice to green tea, make sure you try it with another flavour added, like lemon or honey. It is a required taste, but I have got use to it, and hope it is doing me some good.
Summary: A very pleasant green tea.
