Advantages: Great flavour, soothing qualities, very nice to drink
Disadvantages: The lemon flavour gets lost somewhere under the ginger
I recently bought a box of these teabags for use at work in an attempt to cut down my caffeine intake, someone had also told me that ginger is a good antidote to an unsettled stomach and aids digestion so as I have been recovering from a nasty bout of nausea (nasty virus picked up at work) I figured these were a good bet.
I paid £1 for a box of 25 bags which were on special offer in Asda, I believe they usually retail for around £1.30 and I was impressed enough with them that I would buy them again even at the normal full price.
You can immediately detect the smell of ginger on opening the box of teabags. Each is individually wrapped to ensure freshness, I also find this makes it very convenient for me to chuck a few in my handbag for when im on the move or in meetings, it means I can whip out one of these to have instead of the regular tea and coffee provided.
I always try to make herbal or fruit teas with hot but not boiling water, the bag seems to steep better when allowed to sit in recently boiled water. I usually leave the bag in for a good 5 minutes or so, removing only when I am ready to drink it.
With this tea the water goes a pale orangey brown colour, not an unpleasant shade at all. You can clearly smell both the ginger and the citric tang of lemon, although, in my opinion, on tasting it the lemon somehow gets lost and the overwhelming taste is of the ginger.
I would say that I find this tea particularly soothing, it feels tingly warm as you drink it and the ginger flavour is comforting, I would definitely enjoy this on a cold winters day as its very warming. I do think for me it has soothed an unsettled digestive system also, certainly half an hour after drinking I feel considerably more settled than I do prior to drinking.
It is a shame that the lemon flavour does not seem to come through underneath the strong ginger but to my mind, I am really drinking this tea for the ginger anyway so its not a great disaster.
As far as herbal and fruit teas go this is definitely one of my favourites so far from the Twinings range, when I drink it I dont even think about the fact I am missing out on a caffeine fix and for me thats a great thing.
A really enjoyable tea from the Twinings range.
Summary: A very soothing, calming and warming tea

- 26/06/09 Next time you use fresh ginger, you can keep the peelings. If you add hot water to that, it makes a lovely Ginger tea. If thats your thing.. lol. |
