Advantages: Relaxing aroma and after effects

Disadvantages: Empty taste

Another minty offering from me! Having tried the Mint Options Hot Chocolate, I turn now to a more herbal hot mint drink: peppermint tea. Probably the most common of herbal teas are the Twinings range, and it is their Pure Peppermint I am reviewing.

The Company

Twinings has been established since 1706, making and selling tea of all kinds. They now sell over 200 teas in over 100 countries. Pure Peppermint is part of their Classic Herbal Infusions set.

The Tea and my opinion

The teabag on appearance is the same as a regular teabag. You get a nice aroma of mint when you open the box, which contains 20 bags and has a convenient perforated strip to open it.

On adding the water to the tea, the aroma strengthens. You need only let it brew for a minute or two. Any longer is fine if you like it strong in flavour, but the traditional way is to merely flavour the tea: it is an infusion.

The taste is quite nice, although I was a little disappointed as it almost leaves you with an empty feeling, like you are drinking flavoured hot water as opposed to a hot mint tea. I put the bag back in again for another minute or two to see if this helped, but all it did was increase the flavour, and did nothing to change the feeling of emptiness. However, this is the case with most flavoured teas, so I was not massively surprised.

The tea did make me feel at ease, whether this was psychological or not I do not know, but I was relaxed after drinking it.

Conclusion

A good tea with nice mint flavour. Not the nicest mint tea I've tasted, but of good quality nonetheless.

Twinings teas are available on the high street and in most supermarkets. Current price at Tesco is 68p, a very good price in comparison to other retailers.

Well reviewed. I wondered if it might be the tea bags as Nar2 says. I've had the Twinings peppermint tea in cafes and they use the 'foodservice' bags which are like the Heath and Heather filter bags and do have more flavour. Teapigs make a nice peppermint tea as well

VG review! I adore Mint tea. Its great for bloatedness, stomach aches and more. Im currently using this and find that the tea bag has to steep for about half a minute before it can be taken out. Against Heath Heather who are my favourite herbal company brand, Twinnings mass produced bags are somewhat thicker which probably explains to why you are getting a weak cup.

I've never tried flavoured tea - I keep thinking about it but have never gotten around to it! Good review.x
