Twinings Peppermint tea

Twinings describe their peppermint tea as a refreshing infusion with a clean, fresh taste. Peppermint tea is part of their Revive and Revitalise range which have been selected for their naturally invigorating taste. The teas in this range have been inspired by herbs and botanicals so they are just right for times when you need a little lift naturally.

Peppermint then fits in with this philosophy beautifully as it is a hybrid mint, a cross between the watermint and spearmint. According to an article I read, peppermint is sometimes regarded as 'the world's oldest medicine', with archaeological evidence placing its use at least as far back as ten thousand years ago. Its leaves have traditionally been used to soothe the stomach and aid digestion and Twinings advertise this information on their packaging as a way to sell the tea. I can't say that I have ever used the tea in this way but a lady in my office swears by it whenever she has an upset stomach. Twinings also say that because of the digestive qualities this tea is great as an after dinner drink and an alternative to coffee. This is quite a good idea as generally after dinner I'm quite full so it would be good to have a drink like this but I do have to admit that I would probably prefer coffee.

That's not to say that I don't like this tea because I actually really do. When you first smell the tea bags you get a lovely fresh mint smell which is quite strong and if you sniff too hard can actually make your eye water. Once you have added the hot water though the peppermint is not as strong as the smell in my opinion but it's definitely still the overwhelming flavour in this tea. I do find you can taste just the regular flavour of tea too which is nice. Twinings say that this tea has a cool aroma of mint which it definitely does and that the peppermint leaves have a naturally high content of essential oil which gives it its refreshing taste.

A refreshing taste is probably the best way to describe this tea. After you have drunk it your mouth really does feel cool and minty and refreshed. I find also that the flavour takes away a lot of the bad tastes in your mouth, especially if you have just had something to eat.

This tea has no caffeine in it so don't drink it if you are wanting it to keep you awake. It has no added sugar which is great so it really is a healthy option. It's best to drink peppermint tea without milk as I think adding milk would totally ruin the flavour. If you let the hot water infuse for a few minutes you will get a fairly dark colour to you tea but not a really dark colour which is nice as I don't like it too strong.

A box comes with 20 bags inside it and costs £0.92. The box is green with a large peppermint leaf on the front which makes it very easy to spot. In my opinion a nice refreshing tea.

It really does help with digestion and sore stomachs. Use this when my IBS causes pain and it definitely calms it down a fair bit! Brilliant review- thank you :)
