Advantages: It really does help heal my inner turmoil
Disadvantages: Two cups is all I can manage in one sitting
My body continually adds new foods and drinks to the list that in it's wisdom, it has taken a disliking to, thus ensuring that I become either allergic or intolerant to it.
I recently arrived at the point that I could now longer have coffee and not long after, most tea was added to the list. At home, I could manage some "normal" teas, but not when I was out. Given other intolerances, I was really only left with one option, peppermint tea and invariably the choice on offer was Twinings.
Now I will be truthful, I did not expect to like it, but it would do, until I could get home and get a proper drink- decaffeinated tea with lactose free milk. I thought of it as medicinal, being known for it's soothing effect on stomachs. Being an aid to digestion, what better drink after a meal?... I tried to convince myself. Moreover, as I usually stopped for a morning cuppa or an afternoon tea when with a friend- well it was the company and the chat that mattered not the infusion I was going to consume wasn't it?
But I have to confess it has grown on me and now not only do I have it when I am out, but I have some in stock at home in readiness for when my insides feel in need of some TLC, (cost me £1.65 in Waitrose for 20).
Now they recommend that you let it infuse for 2-3 minutes in boiling water, but this is all a matter of taste as leaving the bag in for longer gives a stronger flavour. You can drink it without anything to sweeten it, but personally, I cannot, Twinnings recommend adding honey, but I add a spoon of Perfect Sweet Xyitol, but I see no reason, why normal sugar or sweetener wouldn't work as well.
Unfortunately we have had very little summer this year (so far), but when we do let me recommend that you make the tea, infusing for 4 minutes and let it cool down, transfer to a tall glass and add a little crushed ice and then add some sprigs of fresh mint, and if you have one to hand a straw.
I don't have a garden so I buy one of the herb mint plants they sell in the supermarket. You can also add the fresh mint to the hot version- but I rarely bother, but it certainly adds to the enjoyment of the cool drink.
Cheers................
Summary: Not just a hot drink- but a very tasty cold one
