Advantages: nice tasteing brand, strong.
Disadvantages: more expensive than some brands
Camomile tea can be an acquired taste I didn't like it when I first tried it and would add honey to sweeten but now I really like it plain and find it a relaxing and pleasant drink hot in winter or cold in the summer.
Health properties of camomile
Camomile belongs to the daisy family and its tea has been used for centuries for its therapeutic effects. It's most widely known as a mild sedative and relaxant to help relieve insomnia but has also been used to treat stomach ailments, fevers and colds, menstrual cramps.
The pharmacological properties behind these traditional health benefits have been discovered (and its use validated through extensive research at Kings college) and camomile has been found to have many therapeutic properties such as antiallergenic, antifungal, antispasmodic, and antibacterial activity. Three cups are usually recommended daily although it is fine to have more although its best to avoid in pregnancy as it may stimulate contractions. I have found that since I gave up caffeine during pregnancy I have now become really sensitive to it, and a coffee in the morning can leave me unable to sleep by night, and this stuff really helps relax me either then or just when I have a lot on my mind.
I also find it really soothing if I have a sore throat with a teaspoon of honey added.
External use
Camomile may also be used externally and many beauty products list it as an ingredient. It may be used in a bath to help eczema and I have tried this on my daughter and it seemed to help sooth her and make her less itchy and distressed. Camomile is also used in hair products and strongly brewed and cooled tea may be used as a final rinse when washing your hair to promote shine and if used regularly a gentle lightener - though don't expect to look like you've hit the bleach bottle because it's subtle.
Twinings camomile tea.
I have tried several brands of tea and you tend to get what you pay for, cheaper brands are usually weaker but contain more bags for your money so you can just use two if too weak. Twinings camomile costs around £1.50 for 25 bags and is quite strong with a clean refreshing taste. I would buy this tea again for its taste but for economy would probably opt for a cheaper brand.
Summary: give it a try if you cant sleep.
