Advantages: Apparent health benefits

Disadvantages: The taste

Twinings Pure Green Tea comes in a 125g box containing 50 teabags.

The legend behind green tea (which is stated on the Twinings packaging) suggests it was discovered in 2737 BC by Emporor Shen-nung, when tea leaves accidentally fell into the water he was boiling to drink. Whilst we can't verify that claim, it does make an interesting story.

I drink Green Tea because it's apparently good for me. In fact, scientists often claim it can decrease the risk of certain cancers, decrease plaque build up in the mouth, increase metabolism for weight loss, help with arthritis, lower cholesterol, and have many other health related benefits.

The problem is, green tea in general doesn't taste very nice - well, not to me anyway. It's not horrible, but I don't find it completely pleasant. Twinings Green Tea is no different - it tastes no better and no worse than the other Green teas i've tried. I used to put sugar in Green tea, but this kind of negates the health related issues that this product offers, so I stopped.

The instructions state a boiling time of approximately two minutes. I find anything more than this can lead to bitterness, and makes the tea cloudy. I often add a splash of cold water to cool before drinking.

I recommend giving Twinings Pure Green Tea a go - but don't expect to fall in love with the taste. If you're on a health kick or a detox, this product could be a welcome replacement for regular tea or coffee - if you can stomach it. I'll stick with it until i'm really fed up with it!

Summary: Do yourself some good

Agree about the taste. Must be doing some good then.

I don't believe the story about Emperor Shen-nung though. I heard that he had a nice green tea salad ready to eat when a servant accidentally spilt some boiling water on it. Like a true aristocrat he drank the resulting mess without a murmur of complaint. From that day on his sevants all drank green tea ... as a punishment! Ahh! The legends you can brew up when there's a new product to be marketed!

Love this, drink gallons (teabags though), even take a flask to work.
