Advantages: Sweet and refreshing

Disadvantages: Weak taste unless brewed for quite a while

I've always liked the idea and the sound of fruit teas as an alternative to my usual PG tips with lots of milk...however all my previous experiences have left me with quite a negative impression. They seem to remind me of a bitter and weak version of hot vimto, so I've now lost count of the number of boxes I've bought expecting to find a new favourite hot drink, only to banish it to the back of the cuboard to be forgotten and eventually binned.

However on my latest health kick after a busy month of holiday cocktails birthday shorts and freshers week shots I decided I would once again give them a try. I like quite sweet flavours so the strawberry and mango caught my eye. They come in a box of 20 for approx £1 which at 5p a bag seems quite reasonable.

So I boiled the kettle, popped in a bag and left to brew for several minutes until the water turned a dark pinky- purple colour. It had a really sweet and refreshing smell to it, however on first taste I found it quite bitter so I added a sweetner and tried again. Unlike all other fruit teas I did actually quite enjoy the taste, but found that the bag should be left in whilst you drink as the taste is quite weak otherwise.

The strawberry definately overpowers the mango, to be honest I could only smell the mango and not taste it.

I think I'll finish the box and then go back to Hot Vimtos for the winter as I find that sweeter and more comforting. But for someone with a more mature palate than me I'm sure this is a refreshing alternative to regular tea and coffee

Summary: Alternative to regular tea

It's amazing how these fruity teas smell so good and then only taste of hot water :-(
