Advantages: Great tea with lots of benefits

Disadvantages: Teabag becomes water logged

Whenever I get ill with a cold or sore throat my mum always gets me to drink honey and lemon. When I moved away from home to go to university I seemed to be in a constant cycle of getting a sore throat and cold every six weeks. In an effort to recreate what my mum had given me but without having to keep buying lemons I decided to give this tea a whirl!

The tea is made by Twinnings; a company I associate with great quality tea. Packs of twenty teabags are often around the £0.80-£1.00 mark, although I recently stocked up with about ten boxes when they were on offer in asda for £0.50! The tea is naturally caffeinge free and the box states that it contains "all natural ingredients", however there is an asterisk by the word natural and I can't find the accompanying information so take from that what you will!

The ingredients of the tea are ginger root, natural lemon flavourings, lemongrass, blackberry leaves, lemon peel, and natural ginger flavouring. The box states that all the herbs are gently steamed in order to protect their taste. Lemon benefits you by strengthening your immune system as it has antibacterial properties. Ginger has a wide range of benefits such as relieving nausea, digestive problems and benefiting circulation. If you get travel sickness then ginger can help to quell it. Ginger can also help to minimise the symptoms of respiratory conditions, colds and allergies.

When I make the tea I will usually leave the teabag in whilst drinking it to get the best possible flavour. I find the teabag infuses really well, the water turns a yellowy colour and after about two to three minutes it is ready to begin drinking. The predominate flavour for me is the ginger, however from reading other reviews on dooyoo I find that some people taste the lemon more so it varies between individuals. If you prefer a slightly sweeter tea you can add some honey, although I find the tea is so light and refreshing I don't need to add anything more to it.

One annoyance is that the teabag always seems to become very waterlogged and if you try to squeeze the water out the bag will burst! So if you learn anything from my review its not to squeeze the teabag, unless you want lots of bits floating in your drink!

In regards to the packaging, it comes in a yellow box with a picture of some ginger root and lemon on the front. The sides and back of the box contain information about ingredients, nutrition (2 calories per 100ml) and information on how to brew the tea. The box has a tab at the top and bottom of the box which when pulled will remove a strip of cardboard from the box to allow you to open it. Often I find that the strip will break off half way around so you will then need to use the second tab either on the bottom or top to finish opening the box.

Although I started to drink this as a remedy for colds etc, I have now found it to be a staple drink to replace my tea/coffee during the day. It is so light and refreshing that I enjoy drinking it and with so many benefits to it I'm not sure you can go wrong. I would recommend picking a pack up to try just to see if you like it. My personal rating is 4/5 due to the water logging in the teabag!

Summary: A great tasting tea with lots of goodness!

Ginger is also supposed to help with morning sickness.
