Advantages: Cheaper than other brands
Disadvantages: A little earthy in flavour for me and not a terribly refreshing cup of tea
I only ended up with Typhoo Tea Bags because my local shop had run out of my favourite PG Tips and these were the only half decent brand on the shelf.
Typhoo doesn't produce such a rounded cuppa as, say, PG Tips or Tetley. I also find the brewed tea to have a slightly earthy flavour that while not unpleasant is a little overwhelming, especially should you accidentally brew your tea for longer than you originally planned.
The best way to make a cup of Typhoo I've found is to allow it to sit in the boiling water for at least three minutes before giving the pot a good stir around, if brewing in a cup you can squeeze the bag against the side although personally I think this makes it taste even earthier so I don't squeeze this particular brand.
I haven't had a problem with a Typhoo tea bag breaking in my cup or pot and I suspect the bags are stronger than most because even when my granddaughter used my pointed grapefruit spoon to make a cuppa it didn't cause the bags to rip or tear.
When the tea is made I add a drop of milk, not too much with this particular brand as it does remove much of the less than full tea flavour from the drink. The drinking experience is fine, although personally I find Typhoo tea has a rather strange musty aftertaste that isn't always completely noticeable but is always there in the background.
I suppose this is simply a brand I am not overly keen on. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Typhoo tea per se, I just don't find the earthy flavour terribly refreshing on my palate and much prefer the cleaner taste of PG Tips.
On the plus side, Typhoo is slightly cheaper than other brands of tea bags available. I paid £2.98 for this box of 160 tea bags which is almost £1 cheaper than the equivalent amount of PG Tips tea bags, personally I'd much rather pay the extra though as I find the flavour of PG Tips to be superior and better rounded for me to enjoy my cuppa.
A word to the wise however, don't even think about sampling Typhoo's instant tea granules as they are completely foul and drinking it is very likely to make you sick. Literally.
Summary: Not as tasty or refreshing as PG Tips, but better than no cuppa at all!
