Advantages: Oh, come on now, this is beer

Disadvantages: Everybody knows these

Beer. Nice beer. About time I did another beer op and hey, Steve (leahslad), I can write this one on the job, so to speak. Betcha you can't. I don't have to wait ten minutes before I try another one either!

OK, so that was cheap, I know. True though. The best bit about it is, I can make the testing last a long long time and the climax just goes on and on and...
Blimey, this stuff must a bit special then, I can hear you all shouting. Shut up - I'm drinking this is serious stuff; man's work.

Mmm. Just pour another bit. Beautiful, pale golden colour, not weak wee wee lager colour, this has body. And shoulders. And a head to put on it. A nice, foamy but not too creamy head.
It doesn't smell too beery though, nicely hopped, slightly bitter at first which develops into a satisfyingly sharp/sweet tang with a hint of grape even. Lovely light malty finish which doesn't go away but hangs around tempting you into another sip.

Another sip. Why sip? You can't gulp this down, this is like drinking a good wine and at 6.5% you'd fall over pretty quickly anyway. Something that I find usually impairs my enjoyment of a decent drink.
I drunk this with Christmas dinner last year and it was a perfect celebration drink; really going well with the dryness of the turkey and the spicy stuffing.

It reminds of something - Berliner Weisse - fabled German ale usually served in gigantic wide-mouthed and unwieldy glasses. But this is as English as they come, brewed in Trowbridge, Wiltshire using Fanfare malted barley and English Target hops. This one is of the 1999 vintage and although the label says it ought to have been drunk by the end of February, it is still exceedingly lovely.
Oh yes, it has two sisters, Ruby and Tawny. I've met Ruby, she's as fine as her pale sister but I've yet to be introduced to Tawny. Can't wait.

In one of my earlier ops, I included it as my joint winne
r in my top 5 beers. Don't think I'll be changing that just yet. I can't guarantee how much longer the '99 vintage will be available, either; although there were plenty in my local Morrisons yesterday.
Best get out there and swallow a few before it's too late.

Look at that - I've finished the op but I've still got half a glass left. Cheers, Steve!

At last! We've been waiting for you. Not jealous as I've got a long memory (and it gets better with age ;-) )

lol, wish I had read this when it was first written, could have made a better comment. Needless to say though, bet you're more jealous of me than I am of you oh, and after 10 pieces of research a night I can still enjoy my beer, bet you couldn't reverse the trend ;-)
