Oh so sweet

Advantages: Added a flavour
Disadvantages: Too sugary
Vanilla coke was a short lived drink in the UK at least which added vanilla to coke, the drink never really became popular and is now impossible to find in the shops. The drink was endemic about 5 years in which adverts trying to portray it as a drink with an edge, the advertising campaign featured an Chazz Palmeteri from The Usual Suspects going around forcing people to drink the product, because it had an edge and rewarding them for being inquisitive.
Vanilla coke is a drink which is popular in North America, it's available in most fast food outlets and seems to be joined at the hip with burgers and fries. The classic drink is coke with a blast of sweetness from the vanilla, it is sold usually with a float in and seems to taste good with the fatty saltiness of the burger and fries. The problem came when they tried to sell the drink without the combo of burger and fries, the drink is still sweet and sugary but as a stand alone drink it fails to work.
Vanilla coke is I think too sweet for most drinkers palate, it has the inherent sweetness from the sugar but also has the impact of the vanilla syrup which makes the drink far too sweet. Coke pulled the product in 2005, but there are hints it could return in some format in the near future.
I quite enjoyed the flavour, I have a sweet tooth and loved the extra hit of sweetness from the vanilla admittedly in only the diet version. Vanilla also gave the drink a slight caramel feel and added an extra dimension to the drink. Will I drink it if its relaunched in the UK? Probably but don't need the burger and fries to go along with it.
Summary: Enjoyable but not great product
